I release the breath that I didn't realize I was holding, "What are we going to do?"

He quickly stands and begins pacing the living room floor, "I don't know." He collapses down beside me on the loveseat and looks at me with intensity, "What is your song?"

I don't reply. I walk over to the CDs next to the radio and begin rummaging through them when I finally find the one I'm looking for. I place it in the player, find the right song and then walk back to the loveseat.

Find me here and speak to me. I want to feel you, I need to hear you. You are the light that's leading me to the place where I find peace.

I glance his way but he's not looking at me. He's not really looking at anything and I can tell he is lost in thought.

How can I stand here with you, and not be moved by you? Would you tell me, how could it be any better than this?

I'm still watching him, waiting on a reaction – any type of reaction – but he is still, not giving away his thoughts or feelings.

You're all I want, you're all I need, you're everything, everything.

The song comes to an end and I walk to the CD player and shut it off. I turn to face him and he's looking at me, "Say something."

"I have to call January." He begins pacing the living room again "I can't do this. What are we doing? I've been with her for three years. What am I doing?"

"This isn't my decision to make for you – but, at this point, you have to make one," I reply, even though I know he wasn't looking for a response. "I'm not that girl. I will not be that girl."

He takes his phone out of his pocket and looks at me, "What type of person am I? She lives in another state, she's six hours away. I am the worst person in the world if I do this over the phone."

He's talking to himself more than he is talking to me. He falls into the loveseat next to me and puts his arms on his knees and his head in his hands, "I can't do this."

I stare straight ahead not sure how things so quickly changed in his mind. I have no words so I say the first thing that comes to mind, the standard response in this type of situation, "Just do what makes you happy."

He steals a quick glance my way and flips open his phone.

He dials her number.
