Hi! I'm Violet.
Right now, I'm sitting crosslegged on my bed chewing the back of my pencil. My checklist in one hand, I wondered if I'd forgotten anything...
My summer vacation began the next day. I was packing stuff for a vacation to my granma's place. I stole a glance at my sister's side of the room.
One word to describe the place: chaos. In the middle of the mess/piles of laundry and fashion magazines stood Susan, my sister. She stood in front of a full length mirror. She flipped her raven black hair back over her shoulder and shifted to get a better look at the hairband she'd just put on. I rolled my eyes and turned back to my checklist.
I had always been organized. I always did my homework on time (except if I was reading a book). I'd always been the one who fished Susan out of trouble. I was also the one who could aggrievate her without even trying. It was a sibling thing.
Susan was my polar opposite. She never organized anything other than her wardrobe or her schedule to fit in another shopping trip.
I smiled slightly, scratching my pup behind her ears. I was excited!
Like I said, tommorrow we were going to my granma's place.
All my cousins would be there. We'd go trekking, swimming (although I hated exercise, I hated ruining other people's joy more) and we'd all eat like cannibals!
My smile widened. I couldn't wait for tommorrow!! I tossed my pencil and paper into my backpack and got into bed. I yawned and closed my eyes. The last thing I heard was Susan muttering, that my shoes were too pretty to be left at home, before I fell asleep.
-------- --------- ----------
I woke up to the alarm on my iPhone. Sitting up I rubbed my eyes. It was a holiday. What was I thinking waking up at ... 6?
It only took me a minute to remember.
Granma's place. Cousins. Robin, Alex, Laurence, Amethyst and Ed! (Ed was a parrot, by the way. Hadn't met him yet but from what I heard he was upto all kinds of mischief, all the time. Perfect!)
I jumped out of bed, grabbed a towel and some clothes and headed to shower.
It was 7 when I hauled my suitcase downstairs and set it next to the other ones by the door. Only Susan's wasn't down yet. No surprise.
I went up to my room and saw her, still in her pajamas, packing (stuffing, really) more clothes into her already full bag. No surprise there either. Susan always packed like she was leaving the country.
"We're leaving in another hour!" my dad called from downstairs.
"Okay!!" I yelled back.
I could hear the excitement in his voice and grinned. It fuelled my own enthusiasm.
Susan, meanwhile, was freaking out.
"Stop grinning like an idiot. We're not ready yet!" she said to me.
"YOU'RE not ready yet," I corrected, emphasizing.
She glared at me. I smiled back. She rolled her eyes and turned away dramatically, waving her hands. See? She's annoyed and that took me zero effort.
Score one, Violet.
I dug my Percy Jackson book out of my bag pack and started reading from the page I'd dogeared. Susan decided that I would be her personal fashion counsellor at that moment. For those who didn't have a sister or didn't read books: she was getting back at me.
I hadn't finished two pages before:
"Violet, can I borrow your shoes?"
"Violet, which looks better? This top or this one?"
"Violet, denim or cotton? black or green?"
"Violet..."
I bit back a moan at the 2351st question. I was not going to let her win this one. Okay, so maybe I exagerrated a little with the numbers but she was really getting to me!
"Violet, ... " She began again in that sugar coated voice I knew not to trust.
I pointed to the clock.
"Thirty minutes more." I said.
Susan jumped up and headed to the bathroom to get ready. I smiled, turning back to the 'Sea of monsters'.
Two to nothing.
Short. I know, I know. I'm working on it!!
:P
