------------

We sat on the floor cross legged, balancing plates of food on our laps.

Larry, me, Alex, Am, Susan and Robin. We were all having dinner this way so we could see each other properly. Everyone talked at the same time. Except Alex and me, of course. We were too busy savouring every bite of our food.

Larry was telling us about the trip we'd planned for tomorrow. It was to Clearwater Falls. It was a really lovely scenery spot. I had learnt swimming there. That seemed like sooooooo long ago that I didn't remember much. Did I mention I have a horrible memory? I have horrible memory.

Lord Ed was busy butchering his dinner. Sasha went around taking a sniff of everything. I had just explained to her that everything here was friendly. I guess she was still getting used to all the scents.

After dinner, we all sat in a circle with grandma. She loved telling us stories of the good old days and frankly, we all loved listening. Larry had fallen asleep with his head on her lap. I hugged my knees to my chest and listened.

"When I was just a little girl, there was a bandit on the loose. He was very clever and robbed many well guarded houses. He always got away with it. Everyone wanted to catch him or see him. His name was Jhembulingam. Legend has it that his gold is still hidden in some cave in the mountains."

She finished her story and then told us about the recent kidnapping of a boy. Susan tensed next to me. It was getting dark outside. She was afraid of the dark and grandma's stories were not helping.

The lights went out then and the grown ups went out to check the fuse. I knew Susan was silently freaking out. I touched her arm to let her know that I was right there. She screamed. It all happened super fast after that.

"GET HIM, GET HIM!!" shrieked Lord Ed and with that Robin and Alex pounced on top of me.

"Wha...?" Am caught me by the mouth, cutting me off. (I'm sure it was a mistake but really? really?!?)

I struggled. Man, these guys could hold... Robin and Alex were pinning my hands down while Am randomly hung on to me.

"OMG!! It must be a burglar!" I heard Alex squeal. She sounded more happy than scared if you ask me.

"He was going to kidnap me!" Susan declared. Groan. She sounded proud.

"Mmph" I kicked out and my foot found Larry's sleeping head. He groaned and sat up.

"Don't let 'em get away!" squawked Ed.

I gritted my teeth. He was so dead.

"I think we should hit him on the head" I heard Alex say "That would stop him from moving"

Oh ok, they were... WHAT?!?! Aaaaaah!!!

I kicked Larry one more time.

"What are you guys doing?" I heard Larry ask.

"It's a burglar but we've got him" Robin called. I struggled a little more.

"Did you see him? Are you sure? The figure looks too small to be a ..."

The lights came on.

"Violet?!?" they gasped letting me go.

"No, you idiots, I'm an alien from mars." I growled.

"I knew it!" Ed crowed.

I lunged for him.

"They're called 'martians'" Susan sniffed.

I lunged for her next but Alex caught me by the waist and sat me down next to Larry. We stared at each other for a moment and then burst out laughing.
