RECAP:
"Exactly." Alex used his same words and then turned to Robin, her face grave. "The one house they'd trust. The most respected family in the village. The one person, highly respected after granpapa himself, would be entrusted with the dangerous job of hiding the gold."
I swallowed.
Granmama.
Granmama was the one to whom the casket had been entrusted. She'd hidden it somewhere in this very house. The thief was searching for it and he was close. So close, he'd be coming here next.
And granmama knew.
She'd known all along.

I tried to swallow the piece of warm chocolate fudge in my mouth. Something difficult to do since the atmosphere was mostly cold and unfriendly and slightly awkward. After realizing that granmama probably knew all about the treasure and had even hidden it somewhere in this very house without telling us, it was difficult to look her in the eye. Like now.
Granmama had knocked on the door to our room about five minutes ago. She'd let herself in with plates of steaming hot, absolutely delicious looking fudge. Sure, we'd had lunch only a while ago but according to granmama, growing children like us needed to eat well.
I couldn't agree more but right now... the atmosphere was a little too tense for even Alex or me to enjoy eating. I felt a little distant from granmama. I'm pretty sure we all did.
"So how did your visit with Lina go?" My granmama asked with a smile.
Lina. Mrs. Peterson. The woman whom Alex and I'd visited just before we came to know about Jhembulingam's treasure being found. I suddenly saw a way to confront granmama about what she hadn't told us yet. It seemed to dawn on Alex too from the look I saw on her face.
"It went great." I smiled back. "She fed us delicious food and talked. A lot!"
Granmama laughed and some of the tension left the room.
"She loved your grandfather and me so much!" she exclaimed.
"Yes," I continued without missing a beat "she told us so. So did the old gentleman we saw on our way back."
"What did he say?" Granmama asked, her eyes dancing with delight.
Cue Alex.
"Oh stuff about Jhembulingam's gold being found." she said.
Granmama stiffened.
"Oh?" she managed, her voice strained.
We stared back at her.
"Well..." she began.
"Are WE hiding the other casket, granmama?" asked Susan.
Granmama looked shocked.
bulls-eye.
"I..." she stuttered.
She took a deep breath.
"Yes, actually we are, Susan but your parents don't know yet."
We all waited.
She sighed.
"Well... that's it."
"Aren't you gonna tell us where it's hidden?" Robin asked.
"HIDDEN, HIDDEN! CRAW!!" that was Ed ofcourse.
