Woohoo!! Chapter 7 is here!
Ah, That's all I got.
I sipped my lemonade and waited for Robert to show up again. Robin was playing with a glass paperweight. I gave it ten seconds to stay in one piece. We were both in Robert's small living room seated on dark red couches sipping from the glasses of lemonade he'd brought us.
Robert finally came through the door leading to, presumably, his room and settled himself on a couch opposite us.
Robin set down the paperweight. It was unharmed. Will wonders never cease?
"Hello, what brought the both of you here?" asked Robert.
Hmmm... how do we start? I decided to leave that to Robin.
"Uh... We were wondering about the stories you told us" Robin said "We'd like to hear more about when you were a kid."
SAY WHAT?!?
I turned to look at Robin so fast, my neck snapped.
Was he insane?!?
"Well..." Robert began.
Oh no, no way.
"And the cat Robin" I said the first thing that popped into my brain. "Don't forget the cat."
Robin looked at me confused.
"What cat?" Robert asked.
I was racking my brains.
"My pet cat... She, uh, ran into your garden.." I nodded my head for effect "Yep, definitely a cat. My cat. Um... pet. Ran into your garden."
"Oh yeah, Abigail!" Robin exclaimed.
I looked at him confused. Did he forget my name was Violet or something? Name! Oh!
I laughed a stupid laugh.
"Abigail! My cat. She's a girl. So we named her Abigail. Yeah!"
Robin face-palmed himself.
I bit my lip. Robert wouldn't believe a word. We should've thought of something before coming inside.
Way to mess everything up, Violet.
But when I risked a glance at Robert's face, I saw fear.
I looked at him again. Sure enough, he looked scared. Robin noticed too.
"Uh " Robin began "Do you think we could search for Abby now, Robert?"
"OH MY ABBY! OH MY ABBY!" Ed shouted.
I rolled my eyes at him and looked back at Robert. He looked more composed now.
"You can take your cat and leave." He said in a strained tone.
Robin and I glanced at each other. Did we blow something? I took the plunge.
"Hey, didn't you say you beat Larry at a detective game?" I asked "You must be really smart!"
That brought Robert back. His eyes lit up and he laughed a loud laugh. I stifled a groan. Here we go.
Robert began enlightening us about his coolness and pure awesomeness. I mostly nodded and smiled, watching as Robin channelled the conversation to the mystery at hand. Robin was really ood at it. It was like he did this all the time. Wait a minute... He did! He always got his way! I made a mental note to never give in to what he asked.
"So as soon as you entered the house, you knew what was up?" Robin asked in an admiring tone.
"OH MY ABBY!" Ed squawked.
Robert ignored the minor interruption, really warming to all the attention he was getting from Robin.
"Oh yes!" he said "Infact, nothing was stolen but the living room was totally trashed. The thief is trying to scare us."
"Brilliant!" Robin practically shouted.
"And of course, the first clue to the thief's identity caught my attention as soon as I entered the room."
Robin went quiet.
"It was an ah-" Robert caught himself "Haha, silly me! I almost told you."
I ould feel Robin's frustration. All the info we'd gathered, we could've gotten from Mr. Sam. Susan and Larry probably knew more than we did by now. Worst of all we had to go through a certain torture a.k.a Robert while they didn't.
"Oh, it must've been a noticable one then" I said in a tone I used to annoy Susan "If you noticed it so easily."
"Of course not!" Robert snapped at me "It went unnoticed by the police! I brought it to their attention."
Groan. He was sharper than I thought. He still didn't let on about the clue he found.
Robin got up. Ed fluttered to his shoulder. I stood up too. Sasha came to stand beside me.
"Well, we have to go." Robin said.
"Nice talking to you, Robert." I said as he walked us to the door.
"The pleasure was all mine." he assured us.
Of course it was.
He opened the door for us and faced Robin.
"I hope you find Abby." he said.
"Who's Ab-"
I clamped my hand over Robin's stupid mouth and gave Robert a huge grin.
"See you later, Robert." I called over my shoulder steering Robin out the door.
I knew there'd be a confused look on Robert's face but a soft click told us that Robert had closed his door.
I heaved a sigh of relief and turned to glare at Robin.
He gave me a sheepish grin.
"Almost blew it, didn't I?" He asked.
"Yeah!" I yelled trying to sound angry.
We both grinned and made our way out the gate.
"Well that was a waste of time." I sighed.
"Not entirely." Robin said thoughtfully.
Thoughtfully? Robin never 'thinks'. He was quiet too.
