Dedicated to all the Ivy Fredricks in the world. One of the best aunts ever! :D
Eight hours and lots of chapters of Percy Jackson later, we were still on our way to the little village my dad had grown up in. It took 7 hours to reach there. I gazed at the clouds from my car window and thought of my family.
Dad had two brothers. He was the youngest. The eldest brother, my uncle, had two kids - Laurence and Amethyst. They were the quietest people I had ever seen! Larry was the eldest, super calm and sharp. His sis, Amethyst, was the same. They were both gentle and sweet.
My other uncle had two kids as well. But these two were another story: Robin and Alex. (Alex is a girl, by the way...) They're always up to something. Always.
Susan gave me a vicious look. I instinctively put my hand up to my hair and realized it was a mess. I straightened my hair a little.
We turned into a street just then. We'd left the highway a while back. I knew we were close and straightened in my seat. All the excitement that had left a few hours ago came back!
"We're almost there!" my mom sang.
Susan looked excited too. She stopped fussing with her hair. That ought to mean something!
We slowed a little. I saw two boys at the end of the street. They turned around. One was tall with raven black hair. The other was shorter with a baseball cap over his wavy brown hair. He had a parrot on his shoulder.
"Larry and Robin!!" I yelled.
Hey, I was hyper excited. I mean I was seeing them after so long! The bestiez whom I'd learned swimming with. The idiots who'd dyed my hair blue once! The angels who put up with me when I was hyper excited. Like now. I couldn't help bouncing in my seat.'
Mom threw me a disapproving glance but couldn't help smiling.
So many new buildings had come up since the last time I'd visited. Larry got into his black car up ahead. Robin jogged up to ours and got in.
"Hi man!" I yelled giving him a five.
"Robin!" Susan gave him a hug.
He laughed. "Hi, you guys!" He responded.
"YOU GUYS, YOU GUYS" echoed the parrot.
A low growl came from near my feet. I jumped.
I'd forgotten all about Sasha! She jumped onto my lap and sat there, keeping a wary eye on the bird. The german shepherd that she was, she tended to be a little possesive sometimes.
Robin laughed again.
"This is my pet parrot," he said "Lord Edwin Leonardo Algeron"
We all laughed. Only Robin could come up with a name like that! I was in a good mood. I'd laugh at the lamest jokes at the moment. It was the 'Mavadi mood'. (Yes, I came up with the name.) Everyone here was all sunshine and flowers.
"He loves caps" continued Robin.
He took off his cap and put it on my head. Immediately there was a flutter of feathers and the next second, Ed was perched on my shoulder. I tried not to stiffen. Sasha let out a low growl again. Uh oh... But Ed didn't seem fazed.
He went, "CAPS! CAPS!! IS THAT A DONKEY?!"
Sasha almost pounced. It was like she understood what Ed said. I stifled my laugh the way the others were doing.
Yep.
The Mavadi Mood was definitely getting to us.
----------------------------------
We finally reached granma's place. I stretched when I got out of the car. It looked the same as it had when I last came. It was a big house. Not super huge and all but still big compared to the other houses. Larry was greeting dad and mom so I took to jogging up the stairs with Sasha, Robin and Susan.
As soon as I entered, I heard a scream. I caught a glimpse of Alex before she launched herself at me. I went down and laughed, shoving a grinning Alex off of me. She was always hyper excited. Always. She had short brown hair and beautiful eyes. She would never stand or sit in one place unless she was eating.
Yeah, she shared my passion for food!
I looked up and saw gentle Amethyst walk up to me. She pulled me up for a hug and I allowed myself to get up. Am had the warmest hugs! You could feel the love and care radiating from her. She had long black hair that fell gracefully down her back in waves.
I pulled away from her and smiled, listening to Susan and Alex chattering beside me. I watched as Larry came through the door and tousled Alex's hair. Alex reached up and tousled his. We all smiled. They messed up their hair whenever they saw each other.
I turned around and spotted my grandmother. I teared up walking towards her. I loved her so much. Yes, yes I know I'm getting a little emotional here.
It's the mavadi mood, I tell ya!
I got two seconds of peace with my grandmother before les chaos set in. My parents and Larry came inside laughing and my uncles and aunts showed up from upstairs. Everyone went "Hey!", "Hi!" or "Hello!" and hugged each other. I felt a hand on my head and looked up to see Larry's smiling face. I smiled back and let myself get lost in all the noise and the confusion.
Let the fun begin.
It's small, I know. I'm working on it...
