"I'm sorry, I just hallucinated. What?" Megan asked as she blinked at Morningstar.

Morningstar sighed, shaking his head as he slipped his arm around Maya's waist. "I've known what Mammon was up to from day one. Other people started to figure it out, but no one ever asked me to stop it. They either joined him or kept it to themselves."

"Why didn't you just stop him?" Megan snapped out, seeming to forget who she was talking to.

"Because it was no longer my problem. As of the day they were appointed, I started my open-ended vacation.

Megan's mouth worked as she tried to think of something to say. Maya saved her by speaking first. "Maybe you should explain." She smiled as she touched Morningstar's chest lightly.

"Probably for the best. Fine. All of this started some fifty years ago,"

"Feels like story time." Xander whispered, smiling at the glare Morningstar sent him though the other didn't miss a beat.

"I sat down with TBMU," Morningstar sighed when Allen asked Dellan what that meant under his breath. "The Big Man Upstairs." Morningstar snapped out, muttering under his breath until Maya smiled and patted his chest again. "I told him I wanted out. We made a deal that if I could find people to rule in my stead I could leave the Below and do things for myself. The stipulation was that the people I appointed could never start a war with the Above or I'd be appointed ruler again. I'd hoped to avoid it by picking Fallen. Most of them just want to live out their long lives peacefully so they were the best choices."

"You failed," Megan ground out, arms crossing over her chest. "You could've stopped all of this if you'd just picked someone other than Mammon."

Morningstar gave a nod. "Yes. However I was only given a month. Mammon somehow heard what I was doing and had the Fallen I'd selected killed. I only had a week left by then, not nearly enough time to find someone else since I still had one person to recruit. So I just appointed Mammon since he seemed so interested in the position."

"Un-Fucking-believable. You sound like an idi..." Megan shot a glare at Dellan when he covered her mouth. Megan shoved Dallen's hand away." You could've found someone to replace him."

"It was against the agreement." Maya finally said, giving a smile. "Whoever he appointed would remain and if war or killing happened between the rulers Malphis would be forced to return with no second chances. I was sent to make sure he followed through with his end of the Bargain when things started going belly up. But well..." Maya smiled as she took Morningstars hand. "I guess you could say I was fired after that and Michael took over. He's more than happy to blame Malphis and condemn him for what's happening."

"Don't blame him," Megan said as she shot them a glare. "Okay, I'm going to ask. Who the fuck is Malphis?"

Maya smiled, nodding her head toward Morningstar. "It's the name I chose when I left the Below." Morningstar said without missing a beat.

"Okay, sort of figured, doesn't mean I get it."

Allen clenched his hands, glaring them all down a moment before speaking up. "Will you guys stop acting buddy buddy. We have a damn demon getting ready to start a war and a missing sorcerer. We don't have time to stand around chatting like old biddies!" Allen was panting by the time he finished, hands still clenched at his sides and face a little red from his anger.
