Chapter Fifteen
As I was having one of the best dreams I was slowly pulled away from it by the annoying sound of familiarity, screeching at me to wake up.
I pouted and groaned as I tried my damnedest to ignore the shrill sound.
"Babe your phone."
Those three little words had woken me up instantly.
Suddenly I was ultra aware of my surroundings, I had forgotten entirely that I was at the cabin with Dean.
"It's my alarm for school I forgot to turn it off." I responded. Dean, eyes still closed reached over and grabbed my phone. I turned off the alarm and he put the phone back gently before pulling me back to him and resuming our sleepy state.
But an hour later my phone began to ring.
"I swear you're lucky you're cute." Dean grumbled as he handed me my cellphone once again, this time it was Steph, I had forgotten to mention that I was missing school.
"Sorry." I apologized to him before sitting up and answering. "Hey girl."
"You running late?" She asked cheerfully.
"Actually not gonna make it in today, I'll see you at school tomorrow okay."
"Everything alright?" She asked.
"Everything's fine, just taking a personal day talk to you later."
She said her goodbye and then hung up.
I offered a small smile to Dean who returned it with his own show stopping grin.
I looked at him and instantly looked away from him, I mean how is it even possible that guys wake up looking like models albeit sleepy models with slightly puffy eyes but that's it. Meanwhile I'm sure I looked like a disheveled mess with eye crustys and as I forgot to remove my make up i'm sure I was rocking the raccoon eyes as well.
He pulled me back down to his chest.
"Good morning." He said before kissing my forehead.
Sure I wasn't expecting it, but I had given him permission. "Morning, sorry again about my phone."
I could feel him shake his head (as I didn't want to look at him knowing I possibly looked like the girl from the ring right now, also my morning breath would likely kill him).
"Don't worry about it, is everything fine with Stephanie?" He wondered as he buried his face next to the side of mine.
"Oh she was probably parked outside of my house waiting for me to come down for school, I forgot to mention I was taking the day off." I said as I kept my eyes glued to the ceiling in worry that he'd be grossed out by my morning appearance.
"Sooo Stephanie...I know you two are best friends."
I nodded and smiled, "Yep...she's been my best friend since Pre-K."
"Have you told her about me?"
My smile faltered, "I haven't had the chance...plus if I know Steph, she'll want to find out in person."
"So you aren't keeping me a secret then?"
This time I looked at him fully (not caring anymore that I may look disgusting) "why in the hell would I ever want to keep you a secret Dean?"
He shrugged, "maybe you don't want to hurt Jace's feelings."
"YOU'RE my mate, NOT Jace...your feelings matter more to me than anyone else's in this whole world."
I had said the words and yet they felt foreign in my mouth, but strangely, as the unscripted words settled in I found them to be wholeheartedly true.
Here we were, mates for nearly three days and yet I felt as if we had been mates for nearly three decades.
He touched my face and smiled, "you hungry?"
"I can eat...can you cook."
"Nope" he smiled widely, "but I can whip up a bowl of cereal."
Amused by his cuteness and honesty I agreed to having cereal with him.
We each grabbed our clothes and this time Dean left the room so that I could get dressed. I immediately rushed over to the large dresser on the opposite side of the room where a wide mirror sat.
Thankfully I didn't look too bad, actually my skin had a nice glow to it, like when you have an unexpected nap and wake up feeling extremely refeshed. My hair also didn't look like a rats nest like it normally does from constant tossing and turning, Instead sat a cute sloppy bun. I decided to rub away the little bits of mascara debris that had fallen under my eyes and then I pulled his shirt and boxers off.
I unfortunately had to put my outfit back on from the day before. After getting redressed I exited the room and found the two guys in the kitchen so I went into the restroom to freshen up.
"Hey Cass, walk of shame much?" Ryan teased as I walked into the kitchen.
I rolled my eyes and Dean stood up as I approached the table, he kissed my hair and pulled my seat out for me, "don't listen to him Cassandra, he's just bitter because he hasn't found his mate."
"And give up my freedom, I think I'll pass." Ryan smirked.
I reached for the milk and poured it into the bowl (as cereal was already inside of it). I ate as the two guys talked and occasionally joined in, the normalcy of being in their presence was comforting.
The boys were laughing about something, I couldn't even tell you what it was about because I was concentrating on the way Deans smile reaches up to his eyes, or the way his shoulder shook when he laughed heartily, then I tried my hardest to remember the sound of his laugh.
But at the sound of Ryan's phone ringing I looked down into my bowl of now soggy Cocoa Puffs, I pushed them around mindlessly with my spoon before I couldn't resist the urge to look up at Dean.
I caught him already looking at me and watched as his cheeks flushed a little and a soft smile filled his face.
I couldn't help but smile in return.
"Cass..." Ryan sounded. Both Dean and I looked over at him, he looked a little sad. "...Jace is home."
And just like that my warm and peaceful calm was suddenly disturbed by the intense pounding in my ears.
I wasn't sure what I'd do upon seeing Jace again but one thing was for sure, I needed to get things cleared up with him so I can peacefully move forward with Dean.
