"Phone calls are limited. Beds are too be made in 15 minutes or less. Pillows flat and corners tucked in. Sleep will be very short and letters will be received daily and letters to be sent out on Sunday. Understood?" The sergeant in front us stares at us with our duffle bags thrown over our shoulders.
We all nod.
"Let me try again. Is that understood?!" He yells.
"Yes sir!" We yell in reply.
"Girls will have Colonel Dusty. Boys you are with me, Sergeant Hodge." The sergeant puffs out his chest. A woman in a matching uniform comes up behind Hodge.
"No need to brag Hodge. You still haven't got your Rescue Medal yet so don't act like its an achievement to have the boys." He woman says. She does have more medals and ribbons than Hodge though.
"Girls, I am Colonel Dusty and I give you relief to go call anyone. You have 15 minutes each." Colonel Dusty says. Her blonde hair (like mine) is pulled back inp a tight bun.
All of the girls, including me, rush towards the phone center. Nia sneaks beside me.
"I need to call my sister. She was about to have a baby when I left." She says.
"Chrissa?" I ask. I grab the phone and punch in Will's cell phone number. Nia nods her head. The phone starts to ring.
"Imma go call my sister." Nia grabs the un-occupied phone beside me and starts gently pressing the numbers while muttering them under her breath. The phone on my line picks up.
"Will!" I practically yell into the phone.
"This isn't Will." The other line says.
