"Hi. Welcome to the recruiters office for the Marine's and Army." A woman passes out a flyer to me. I came with Will and Jane. Will, to drive me home and Jane, for someone to reassure me. No one looks at me. They are all staring at Will. Tall, buff, handsome. He's just what they want.

Jane is as tall as Will and she's walking beside him eyeing everyone. She turns in a slow circle to see everything. I walk ahead of them, slowly.

I'm three inches shorter than Will. I have light blonde hair that almost appears white. My eyes are pale blue with green rims. I'm about 5' 5" which means both Jane and Will are 5' 8". I'm in a t-shirt and skinny jeans. I hope they don't notice my average trashy look. I keep walking and we walk straight up to the sign that says, "Army recruiters. ---->". We take a right and knock on the door, or at least Will does anyways.

"Wow! You would be a good recruit!" A big man says to Will. Will shakes his head and points to me.

"I'm here for my sister." The man looks at me up and down.

"Tall. Not thick or thin. Age?" He asks. His voice is deep and it feels like the ground shakes when he talks.

"16." I say. I went to kindergarten a year early so I was always older than the other kids. The man shakes my hand. His badge says, "Pedi-officer -----"

(AUTHORS NOTE! SORRY I AM ONLY SAYING RANKS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO MAKE UP A NAME AND HAVE THE CHANCE THAT IT'S A REAL PERSON AND THAT WOULD BE STUPID IF YOU WERE RAISED THE WAY I WAS (in a armed force family) I'M GONNA TYPE "------" WHEN IT REACHES A NAME! THANK YOU!!!!)

We are in that office until almost sundown. Just talking about me and the Army. At last, Pedi-Officer ---- stands up and hands me a business card.

"So is she accepted?" Will asks.

"Well she isn't 'accepted'. She has to sign up and do training and such, but-" The man starts but he's interrupted by Jane.

"So is she in?" Jane says slowly. Pedi-officer ----- turns his gaze to me. He keeps staring at me for what feels like forever until he says:

                                                     "Next year, kid."

That's not gonna stop me.
