Nathan gave me a quick crash course on Quinn before I had to go out. He practically shoved me into the throne room, where I would have to meet Quinn's parents. I looked back between the doors.
"Nathan! I don't want to do this!" I whisper-screamed at him. He smiled and pointed at it, telling me to smile. Finally, he shut the door and I was left with Quinn's parents. I turned to them slowly. They were on the other side of the room, waiting with an empty chair. I would guess that's Quinn's.
I put one foot in front of the other, reluctantly. Then another, then another, until I was by Quinn's parents and seated in the empty chair.
"Good Morning, Quinn." The queen said. I jumped at her voice.
"Quinn, answer your mother." The king said.
"Good Morning, your majesty-er! Mother." I said, silently kicking myself. I guess the queen took that as offensive.
"Quinn, if this is about yesterday, you need to drop it." She replied.
"No, no, it's not." I assured her, though I had no idea what she was talking about.
"Good. So I'll assume that this whole thing is behind us?" The king asked me. I bit my lip hard, finally choosing what to say.
"Yes, Father." I said. The word felt odd coming from my lips. Father. I hadn't called anyone that for years. There wasn't anyone to. But now, I could.
I was going to like it here. I would make sure of it.
---------------------
It was the quickest day I've had in forever. After the spill with the king and queen, it had all gone so fast.
The thing that I wish was the quickest was lunch. The food was horrific. It was all blue and pink and purple foods, some were glowing too. Something I hadn't known before: fairies have fangs. Not just the four fangs that vampires have; all of their teeth are pointed, and very sharp. I found this out when I tried to eat something called a woolenter (a purple meat of some sort), and I almost bit off my tongue. Fortunately, the stupid fairy power in my body healed it almost instantly.
When it was time for the castle to go to bed, Nathan had sneaked into my room, just like he said he would this morning. When he did, I was standing at the doorway.
With one swift move, I punched him in the arm.
"Ow! What was that for?" He asked, rubbing his arm.
"I know that didn't hurt you." I snapped. I thrust both of my arms out in front of me. "Take this stuff out, it's giving me the creeps."
"I can't, remember?" He replied. "That's why you are going to help me find the tree that sucked you in."
"Wait, what?" I asked.
"Quinn was not the smartest fairy when it came to running away. That's why you're going to help me help you." Nathan said. Before I could protest, his eyes glowed a bright purple. It lit up the room as purple dust came from his fingers, flowing to the door and out to the rest of the castle.
"What are you doing?" I asked, watching him. He didn't reply. It was dead silent. I could hear a pin drop as he did this. Finally, the dust evaporated and his eyes went back to normal yellow. "What did you do?"
"Sent the entire castle besides you and me into a deep sleep." He replied with a smile.
"Why?" I asked.
"So we can do this." Nathan said.
"Do wha-" I started to say.
Nathan stopped me by grabbing my arms and starting to run to the other side of the room. Before I knew what he was doing, he turned the corner of the bed and sprinted out to the balcony, with me in his grasp.
