Quinn

Being Zoe was the weirdest sensation in the world. For one, being a human means that everything is made especially for your size. Trees were a lot smaller, bushes, leaves, even common items seemed smaller in my palms, just because I had made myself larger.

Another thing, humans are hard to understand. Unlike fairies, humans tend to hide their emotions very well. Fairies have a sixth sense: emotional-reading. But that sense only works with other fairies. With humans, it's like reading a dead animal.

Lastly, the food is the oddest thing I have ever seen. Humans don't have gargar pudding or the meat of a phynix. They have weird names for food, and they taste weird too. Like with Zoe's mother, she gave me a bowl of "cow's milk and cheerios cereal." After that, it was the most amazing day I've ever had.

I had Zoe's mother drive me to school in this little compartment called a car. I couldn't use my wings to get to "school," but it was hard. I also had to hide everything about my old life. My jewel, my powers, even my wings. That's one more thing about humans. They are the most bazaar-looking creature on the planet.

With no way to travel, they have created these "cars" to take them places. Instead of using powers to get what you wanted, you had to work for it. And their faces were ugly, naked without the jewel protecting their skulls.

When I got to the "school," I found two nice-seeming girls that started to wave me over.

"Zoe, why didn't you drive to school today?" A girl said with blonde hair and pink highlights.

"I don't know." I said.

"Well, did you bring the banner?" The other girl said, the one with brown hair, but it was flipped over her head, and it was shorter just above her ear, like it was cut to be that way.

"What banner?" I asked.

"The one we worked on for three days?" She sounded angry. I shrugged, I didn't know what she was talking about.

"Harley, keep calm." The blonde-pink haired girl said. Apparently, the brown-haired girl's name was "Harley."

What a strange name. I thought.

"How can I keep calm, Alicia?" Harley said. The blonde-pink haired girl's name was Alicia. Once again, what a strange name. "She doesn't have the banner!"

"We'll figure something out, people don't start coming for another half an hour." Alicia replied.

"Way to go, Zoe, Class President of the entire high school, THE FIRST eleventh-grade president, might I add, and you forgot the stupid banner. What are we supposed to now, huh?" Harley yelled.

"Harley, look at me." Alicia said. Harley did. "Calm. You're stressed. I get that, but you don't need to express it. Be bubbly Harley. Hide your anger, hide your stress. If you don't you won't be popular for much longer. Keep bubbly."

That doesn't sound right to me.

"Fine. Sorry, Zoe. Let's see what we can do." Harley said. She walked away, looking for something else to be a banner. Alicia looked at me.

"I know you're not Zoe." Alicia said. I stumbled back. "Zoe hasn't rode with her mom ever since she got her car. She also doesn't forget stuff. I know that for a fact. When I was sick for three months, she had bought me a bouquet, but before she brought me them, she ripped out the daisies. I'm allergic to daisies. I hadn't told her that since the third grade, and ever since I had never mentioned it to her. I know you're not Zoe, so mind telling me who you are before I start talking to other people?" Alicia put her hands on her hips, looking at me expectantly.

"Maybe I just forget sometimes, Alicia." I said, trying to hide my emotions as well as humans did.

"And one more thing. My nickname is Ali. Zoe gave that to me after we started to call her Zo. Harley is Har. They might sound stupid, but we rarely use our real names unless we are feeling unhinged. I'm gonna ask again. Who are you, and where is Zoe?"

I hardly knew what a nickname was, but I knew that I was busted.

"If I tell you, I know for a fact that you won't believe me until I get you alone somewhere." I said.

"No way. Tell me now." Alicia said. I could feel my face getting hot. I looked to where Harley had gone. She turned into the school right as I looked towards her.

"Fine. I know you won't believe this, but let me explain before you say something." I said, Alicia nodded, like she was ready for the hit. "My name is Quinn, and I'm a fairy."

"Please. I'm not five." Alicia said.

"I'll prove it." I said.

"How?" Alicia asked. I looked around to make sure that no one was around but her and I. Then, I tore off my backpack and the jacket on my shoulders and turned around.

In one second, I had my wings out in front of her. Alicia's face twitched, but she barely blinked.

"So what? They could be fake." Alicia said.

"Wanna bet?" I asked, turning away from her.

"What are you doing?" Alicia asked as I started to walk across the top of a wall, my wings still outstretched. It had to be at least thirty feet above the ground. Alicia followed from the side, walking down the steps. "Zoe-er, Quinn, what are you doing?"

I broke into a run towards the end of the wall.

"Don't! You could hurt yourself!" Alicia yelled. Too late. My slippered foot jumped from the wall and I fell through the air. With one powerful flap of my wings, I shot through the air, defying the gravitational pull. Flap. Flap. Flap. I was flying before Alicia's eyes. "How are you doing that?"

"I told you, I'm a fairy." I said, landing in front of her. She went behind me, stroking her fingers all over my wings.

"This must be a powered backpack or something." She mumbled. I just smiled, knowing that she was wrong. Suddenly, I felt a tug, then, a pull. finally, I felt a full yank.

"Ow!" I yelled.

"Oh stop it, I know these are fake." Alicia said. I felt a foot placed on my back, and Alicia all but tore my wings from my body.

My eyes glowed, sending a powerful wave of energy from my body and throwing anything around me away. I heard a drop of a backpack and Alicia's grunt. Folding my wings, I turned back to Alicia. I pulled on the jacket and backpack.

She sat on the floor, like she had fallen. Basically, she did.

"Was that you?" She asked. I nodded. "OMG."

"There's a lot more where that came from, Alicia." I said, helping her up.

"Hey guys!" I heard Harley yell. We both turned to her, Alicia still shaken up from the shock of my news. Harley saw this and paused for a second. "Are you guys okay?"

"Perfect." I said before Alicia could.

"Well, I found some butcher paper and some markers we could use, let's go." Harley said, turning and running back into the school. I turned to Alicia. "Don't tell anyone else, I'll explain later, act natural."

"Why should I listen to you? I should be calling the authorities!" Alicia said.

"Because not only am I a fairy," I said, walking back up the steps, "I'm a princess as well."
