"I hate what I have!" I yelled at Nathan.

It had been three hours before I could even steer straight in the air. It was almost midnight, and I hadn't slept in hours. I was starting to get a little mad.

"It's like I have a curse!"

"No, it's like you have a gift." Nathan said. "It sounds like something like a fairytale, but doesn't being in one feel different?"

"Yes, yes it does, Nathan. It feels like a horror story now." I snapped, sitting down on the ground. "I'll never be Quinn."

"If your attitude doesn't improve, you'll never be Quinn." Nathan said, sitting next to me. "You're just going to have to trust me."

"How can I trust someone who I just met this morning?" I asked, looking at someone. "Who has also threatened me twice, might I add."

"Who was the one who caught you when you were falling?" He asked.

"Who was the one that dropped me on purpose?" I retorted.

"Fair, but seriously, who else are you going to trust with this secret? The guards? The queen-the king?" Nathan said. I crossed my arms and looked away from him. He reached over and brought my gaze back with my chin. "I'm the only one that knows this, and I'm not going to tell anyone."

I could feel his truth in his words in my own body. It was like I could reach out and touch it. I shivered.

"How can I feel your honesty? It's creepy." I said, moving away from him.

"There's a lot of biology about fairies that you need to learn, and fast, because if you ask about this stuff in front of your so-called "parents," you're toast."

"So, what are you saying?" I asked.

"I'm saying that you're not sleeping tonight." Nathan replied. I groaned and fell back, staring at the sky filled with stars.

"You know, Quinn said that she didn't have to do anything, ever. Why can't I just be doing that?" I asked.

"Because you're not Quinn. Not at the moment, anyway." Nathan said, pulling me up to my feet. "Now, I'm going to tell you about fairies, and you're going to practice flying. Deal?"

"If I get some normal food, I might agree." My stomach was growling like an animal. I hadn't eaten hardly anything that day, and that was saying something. Normally, I grab an apple for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But this was just cruel.

"You know, if you actually try some of our food, you might like it." Nathan said.

"Do you have apples, or a hamburger?" I asked, snickering. Mmm. Snickers.

"No, but we have similar food to your likings." Nathan replied. I looked at him.

"How do you know so much about humans?"

"I studied them in school." He said. I looked up at the jewel on my face. I flicked it hard, trying to get it off without hurting me. The flick didn't work, so I tried to pry it off. Nathan didn't stop me just yet. When my fingernails were underneath the first part of the gem, I tried to pull it out.

"AAAHHHRRRRGGGG!" I yelled, trying to fight through the pain as I tugged. I gave myself a splitting headache. Finally, Nathan grabbed my wrists and pulled them away from my face.

"The only way that's coming out is with Quinn removing it, and she's not here. Stop it, or you'll kill yourself."

"I'd rather be dead than be here. I want to go home." I said. Part of that statement was true.
