I was jolted awake with a shock sent through my body. It felt like a lighting bolt going through my feet and into my veins.
"Hey!" I yelled, pulling my feet closer to me. I rubbed at the bottom of my feet and looked up. Nathan was standing in front of me, and Quinn was crouched down next to where my feet were when she supposedly shocked me. "Come to mock me again?" I growled.
"I mean, I guess I could, but would you like me to do that before or after I take the fairy limbs and DNA back again?" Quinn said with a large smile.
"It's the second day?" I asked, looking up at Nathan.
"Yup." Quinn laughed, but my gaze stuck on Nathan, who nodded.
"I can go home?" I asked. This time, Quinn nodded. I stood up and held out my arms. "Take it all."
"It's going to be very sore, and you won't have the healing of a fairy anymore. It'll take a few moments for you to recover." Nathan said.
"Nathan's right." Quinn said, getting up. "You'll feel a little out of it."
"I don't care. Please, just take it." I replied, taking Quinn's shoulders and shaking them a little.
"Okay, okay." Quinn said, pulling off of my hands. She stepped back a few feet, and I noticed Nathan taking a few steps back as well. I closed my eyes just as Quinn raised her hands.
A few moments later, I felt Quinn's dust go into my nose, mouth, and forcing my eyes open to go through them. I could actually feel the dust running through my veins and around each of the extensions of my body. My teeth, my back, my head. Everything suddenly felt numb, and I could feel the dust grabbing them, yanking them through my body. As they were dragged through my flesh, I felt them disintegrate through my body and exit out of my nose and mouth. As Quinn took the last of her dust, I fell to my knees and hands.
Nathan came and knelt next to me, putting his hand on the back of my neck.
"You okay, Zoe?" Nathan asked. I didn't answer.
I felt like I was going to puke.
Quinn came over after she got the rest of the dust inside her own body and her eyes returned to normal. She knelt next to me on the other side.
"You wanna try to stand up?" She asked, and I nodded. With their help, they lifted me to my feet, and I stood, full human, once again.
"Can I go home now?" I asked.
Nathan and Quinn laughed and nodded.
-------------------
I landed on my ankle as I rolled onto the willow tree in my backyard.
"Ow!" I whispered. It was light, but I didn't see anyone in my yard, so I would think that it was good that no one saw a seventeen-year-old teenager roll onto a willow tree from a magical portal in the trunk of said tree. I looked behind me just early enough to watch the yellow-blue swirl disappear from the bark. I put my hand to the tree, finally realizing that it was all gone. It was all gone, and I was Zoe Winkle again. I was me again.
"I'm home." I whispered to myself.
Climbing down the tree was probably the hardest thing you could do with a rolled ankle, but I managed to slip and fall on my back, forgetting that there weren't wings to catch me anymore. Nor was there the healing power of fairy DNA to take over the pain I had created when I fell.
"Quinn!" Someone yelled. I looked over to see Alicia running over, Harley close behind. "Are you alright? Where have you been all weekend?"
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"You've been gone for the past two days, Quinn. We had to cover for you and say that you were camping with us." Harley said. "Where have you been?"
"Funny story." I said, realizing that they didn't know I was Zoe yet. "You see, I went back to my kingdom, Fluttershy, and saw your friend, Zoe. She was doing such a terrible job, I had to eliminate her."
"WHAT?" Both Alicia and Harley screamed.
"Quinn! How could you?" Harley yelled.
"Quinn, how are we supposed to live without Zoe? She's our friend!" Alicia shouted.
"Another funny story." I smiled, taking each of their shoulders. I pulled them in close so I could whisper into their ears. "I'm not Quinn."
"Don't tell us there's more of you! What's your name this time? Willow?" Harley yelled.
"Don't speak of our All-Mother like that!" I yelled, pretending to be offended. "Besides. I have a different name."
They looked at me with expectancy.
"It's Zoe." I said. Their eyes lit up like fireworks.
"ZOE!" They yelled. Both grabbed my neck and held me tighter than I could breath with.
"Guys, I need air to live." I whispered through their tight grips. I've come way more close to dying than they'll ever believe.
After a moment, they let go of my neck and sat me down on the grass.
"What was it like?" Harley asked.
"What did you do? What did you wear?" Alicia asked. I put up my hand.
"Trust me, you do NOT want to know what happened over there." I replied. They gave me puppy-dog eyes, but there was no way I would put my friends through the stress of listening to my death.
"Oh come on, can't you-" Harley started, but I gave her a look so cold it shut her up nice and tight pretty quick.
"So, what happened when I was gone?" I asked. Both Alicia and Harley looked at each other, giving each other a face that told me nothing good happened.
"Um, Zoe, Quinn kinda sorta......broke you up with Josh." Harley said.
"She WHAT?" I screamed.
Alicia winced at my tone. "We warned her not to, but at least you don't have to date him anymore."
"Are you MAD?"
"Zoe, he's too rotten and jerky to be with a sweet girl like you. Don't be mad at Quinn, I think she did you a favor." Harley butt in.
"You think I'm mad at QUINN?" I yelled. Both of them winced.
"Yes?"
"Well, you're wrong. I should be thanking her. I hated Josh. Such a bully!" I laughed. Harley and Alicia seemed to relax after that.
"I'm glad you're not mad at her, or even us." Alicia said. "So, are you happy to be home?"
"Alicia, I am home, that's all that matters. But if you do need to know, yes. I am happy." I said.
I pulled them into a hug, and Harley asked me a question.
"Are you ever going to go back?"
