I hated being so weak.
I felt I had no control, and I didn't. When Nathan had me calm, he thought that the matter was over, but the second I could move again, I would have strangled him.
How dare he? He was probably the cause of the dream of my death. No wonder I jumped at him when I awoke.
"I want to go home." I said, tears going down my cheeks.
"You can. Just not now." He said back.
"I want to go home."
Nathan rubbed my bare arm like we were old friends and patted it, getting up from kneeling on the ground. He left the room, leaving Quinn and I alone. I stared at her with pure hatred.
"You did this to me." I growled.
"I wasn't the one that had to be injected by calm-down juice, if that's what you're saying." She replied. "What's so scary about being alone? I would love to be alone all the time."
"How did you know that?" I screamed.
"Know what?"
"How did you know that that was my worst fear?"
"I saw it on your monitor." She said, pointing to a little screen a ways away from me. It took all of my energy to move my neck to look at it. "What's so scary about being alone?"
"Wouldn't you like to know." I snarled, ignoring her question all together. "What's your greatest fear then? And why would they be posted on a monitor for everyone to see?"
"Nathan said that the doctors-"
"Doctors? Oh man, they know I'm human then! You're trying to kill me!" I screamed.
"Zoe, I'm sure they're not going to kill you."
"They might not, but your parents will! I was a human impersonating a fairy.....a princess fairy, and they will know that they've been living with a human all this time! Now I have to relive dying!" I yelled. My hand was weak, but it took all of my strength to make it into a fist. "I HATE YOU!"
"Don't yell at me! How was I supposed to know that?"
"You, of all people, should know that! They put Gideon in jail, but who knows what they'll do to me! Gideon was a fairy, but I'm a human!"
Nathan came into the room just as I was trying to get up.
"Zoe, relax." Nathan said, kneeling again to get me to calm down again. I wouldn't let him.
"You stay out of this. You said yourself that they'll have me hanged! If you get involved, they'll have your neck too. Don't you dare say otherwise."
"Zoe, I know for a fact that if you don't calm down, they'll kill you for sure, so shut up!" Nathan hissed. "They know your a human, but once Quinn explains-"
"Why should I explain? All she's ever done for me is yell at me." Quinn said. That started me up again.
"And what about you? You left me in this dump you called a world and ditched me here so you could hang out with my life! You left me with nothing!"
"Well at least I don't have a crappy choice in boyfriends!" Quinn shouted.
We kept yelling back and forth, so loud I don't think I could even hear my own voice. Quinn got up from her bed and came over to me, pointing in my face angrily, until-
"ENOUGH!" Nathan shouted, a wave of magic bursting out of his body, eyes glowing. Quinn's body suddenly sat back down on her bed and I suddenly closed my mouth shut. "Zoe." Nathan pointed to me once his eyes returned to normal. "They know you're a human, but once Quinn explains, both of you are off the hook and Zoe can return to her world."
He then looked at Quinn.
"You are going to explain, or you will never get rid of her and she'll never leave. Do we have a deal?" Nathan asked both of us. With unspoken words, we both agreed and left each other alone. Nathan sat in a chair on the other side of the room. "It's a wonder that the both of you are alive still. I would have counted on one of you killing the other the five minutes I left the room."
"She started it." Quinn said. I hissed at her and left her alone.
-------------------
When the effects of Nathan's injection wore off, I could sit up and move around a little, but I was given a short leash around the room, courtesy of Nathan's additute towards both Quinn and I being around each other. Nathan had explained why I had the horrible dream, and he explained what had happened when the jewel from my forehead was torn out. I was given a mirror and saw three stitches across the middle of my forehead where the jewel was. I was told that I would scar, but not so deep that it would be very noticeable from a distance.
Quinn and I were given clothes that came from Quinn's closet. Quinn had a very elegant dress with particles of diamonds in the seems, while I was given the t-shirt and pants that Quinn had worn to get here to the cave. (Washed of course.) I swore when I got back to my house that I would burn the clothes as soon as I got back into my room.
Finally, I was given some decent food and water, while Quinn had the nasty stuff they had called food. It was probably the only edible thing I was given all the time I was here, and it was an apple and water.
"Why didn't I get this sooner?" I asked Nathan as I bit into the apple.
"Quinn doesn't like apples. If you were caught with one, you'd be suspicious." Nathan said, sitting with Quinn as she shoveled the awful purple substance into her mouth.
"I'll bet you're happy to be with the real Quinn again." I said sourly.
"As a matter of fact, I am. But don't think that I don't care about you either." Nathan said. I hated this place.
"Zoe, can we please just start over?" Quinn said, noticing my frown. I hadn't expected her to say that. "I realize it was a mistake to leave you here. I'm so sorry."
"That's your stomach talking. Once you're full you'll take back every word you just said." I grumbled, biting into the apple again.
"No, really. All this time I was sorry. I tried to say it to you multiple times. I even held back my punches when you were fighting for Gideon." Quinn laughed. I chewed long and slow, watching her face for any sign of lying. I didn't see any.
"Why the sudden change of heart?" I asked.
"Because I realize that you are scared right now." Quinn replied. "You're a human in a fairy's world, in a fairy's body. I really just want to start over and apologize for everything, start fresh."
I looked over at Nathan, who sent me a message through brain waves.
Take it. She means it.
"I guess. But don't leave me here again." I said. Quinn smiled and put out her hand. I took it and shook. I guess I have to be nice to her now.
Just as we let go, the door opened, and a guard came in.
"The King and Queen would like to see Quinn for a few moments." the guard said in a deep voice. Quinn looked at Nathan, then at me for assurance. It was time to decide my fate.
