Quinn

I was so nervous, my hands were shaking as I flew behind the guard to the throne room. Now that I had made peace with Zoe, I knew now that I had to get her home. She deserved it.

When we made it to the thrones, the guard left and I landed in front of my parents with my hands crossed in front of me.

"Quinn." My father said. "I'm very disappointed in you."

"I know. But if you would hear me out, I would like to explain." I offered, red coming to my cheeks. I was nervous, but I didn't show it. A Queen would never show her fear.

"Continue." My mother said.

I took a deep breath and got ready for my speech that I had planned in my head all the time I was awake. It was a miracle that I was, anyhow, and for some reason that he could choose, my father could not ignore that.

"Zoe is innocent." I started. My father made a face that told me he didn't approve, but I kept on. "I don't know how she got here, but I ran into her in the forest when I ran away. She didn't know what was going on, but I thought we looked similar enough that you wouldn't notice, so I disguised her as me and left her unconscious by the Mermaid Pond. Then, I went to her world and I was her."

My father erupted.

"Are you saying that we have been living with a human for two weeks?!" He yelled, standing up from his throne. "And you have been living around thousands?!"

"Father, I-"

"No! I will not have it! Quinn, you have dishonored our entire family, and you have put yourself and this entire kingdom in danger with a human! Don't you know how vile they are?"

"Father, the humans aren't dangerous!" I yelled, completely forgetting my speech. "They aren't like what you know, and I won't be told otherwise! They're innocent and they're completely harmless!"

"How, Quinn? How could they not be dangerous?" My father asked.

"Zoe's friends, two humans, knew about me and I-"

"They knew that you were a fairy?" He yelled again. "Quinn, how could you be such a fool?"

"Father! Listen to me!" I screamed. The entire throne room went silent. I took a breath as tears went to my eyes. My nails dug deep into my palm so not to explode again. "I always thought that you would listen to me when I was Queen."

"You're not a Queen yet!" My father yelled, but my mother put a hand on his as to say to listen. I was glad that she did.

"The humans are not what you thought, Father. The two that knew about me actually helped me stay hidden from the others. They're innocent, and you should leave them alone if they are. It's not fair that they should be punished for my mistakes."

I walked a little closer to him, looking at him directly in the eye. "They're not a part of this, they should be left alone, and whatever you want done to me shall be. This is my punishment, and Zoe should be able to go home. She has done nothing wrong but try to protect herself from the threat of death, many, many times." One tear escaped from my eye, rolling down my cheek as I finished. "My only request is that Zoe is untouched, unharmed as she returns to her home."

My parents were silent for so long, I thought they wouldn't respond. I lowered my head, but as soon as I did, my father pulled my chin back to look at him.

"Of course, Quinn." He said. "I'm just glad you're safe and home as well."

I didn't know what to do at first, but I found myself pulling into him, tears streaming down my face as I crumpled into his chest.
