"How did you get here?" Alicia asked, examining my wings. We were back at her house, in her room. Apparently, she had "called" Zoe's mom to say that Zoe (me at the moment) was going to be at her house. Harley had to go home and finish a summer project that was going to be due tomorrow.
Alicia ran her fingertips across my wings.
"I made a portal from my world to yours, and Zoe and I switched lives for a while." I said.
"I still can't believe Zoe would leave the day before the first day of school. It's just not like her." Alicia said like she was talking to herself. I turned redish. Maybe it wasn't her fault. I thought.
"You want to see something cool?" I asked Alicia.
"Haven't I already? You flew in front of me this morning!" Alicia exclaimed. I folded my wings. Alicia looked sad to see them go. "You're not going to possess me, are you?" She asked.
"No, but you might want to step back a little." I said. She obeyed immediately. Picking up my hands, i felt my eyes start to glow, and I pointed my hands out so blue dust swirled around my arms like vines. Alicia tried to step back, but she tripped and fell onto the ground, still looking at me. I stopped my magic and helped her up.
"O. M. G." She said. She smiled hard, letting go of my hand once she was up. "I'm really weirded out by this, but this is awesome!"
She sounded really enthusiastic, so I assumed she liked it.
"How do you do all of this stuff?" Alicia asked. I felt my eyes glow for a second longer, and I revealed my jewel.
"This is the source of my power." I said, pointing to my jewel. "It's also what keeps me alive."
Alicia came closer to see it.
"It's so shiny, and I like the color." She said, bringing her hand up to it. I stepped back.
"Don't touch it please." I said. She looked puzzled. "It's the thing that keeps me alive, I don't really want someone to mess with it."
"Oh, right, sorry." She said. Alicia sat on the bed, looking around.
"So, tell me about your life. What do you do?" I asked, sitting next to her.
"Oh, please. You really don't want to hear about my life. It's so boring compared to yours." Alicia replied. I gave her a look saying I really did. "Fine, fine. Let's see.......... I do ballet, I am Zoe's co-best friend with Harley, um, I have two sets of parents, two sets of siblings, and........that's about it."
"Wait, wait, wait, how can you have two different parents?" I asked.
"Well, my original parents are divorced." Alicia replied. I didn't understand, and I guess my face showed it. "You know, like, they aren't married anymore, and they marry someone else?"
"Why do you humans always have to complicate things?" I asked. Alicia's smile faded.
"What do you mean, "you humans?" We're almost exactly like you." Alicia said, sounding annoyed.
"Actually, you're not." I said. "Have you ever flown? Have you ever created magic from your own body? Are you two inches tall? Do you keep everything simple?"
"No, but that's our life. We can't help it." Alicia said. "And what do you mean simple?"
"Fairies, for one, don't "divorce." If they marry, they are mated for life." I said, getting up from the bed. "And another thing, we live until we are hundreds of years old, and we don't age past twenty."
"Okay, I'm sorry!" Alicia said, backing off.
"It's alright." I replied. "Now, how do I be Zoe?" I asked, hiding my jewel again.
"Okay, so, she has one sister, Kayli. She doesn't get along with her very much." Alicia said. I nodded. "Also, her mom is never around, so don't be too worried about fooling her."
"Okay, so what about her dad?" I asked.
Alicia turned white. Finally, an emotion that I could understand.
"What's wrong?" I said.
"Zoe's-" Alicia started. "Zoe's dad is dead."
I turned white too. With a weary voice, I squeaked,
"What happened?" I was on the verge of loosing it.
"He was in the army, and he was killed." Alicia said, sounding scared. "But Zoe's over it, it's been a few years.
"Okay." I whispered.
I could never imagine a life without my dad. As much as he got on my nerves, I still loved him. My mother and I couldn't bear it if he were gone.
"What's next?" I said. Alicia swallowed and continued.
"She loves lattes. Like, it's rare to see her without one."
"Alicia, I need the essentials first, not the lunchbox stuff." I said, laughing.
"Right, right. Okay, so she's the class president, that's why we needed you to bring the banner today. She's also the debate co-captain, soccer captain, cheerleading captain, and she's the most popular girl in school."
"That's a lot of captains." I said, smiling. "Just what I need!"
"Wait, you're happy about this?" Alicia snickered.
"Well, yeah! I've never done anything alone before. I can't wait!" I said.
"Oh, that's all of our dreams. What's your life like?" She asked.
"I'm a princess and I can't go anywhere alone. Back to Zoe's life." I said.
"That's pretty much her." Alicia said. She looked around the room like she was looking for something to do. "So, what can you do with that power?" She asked. I smiled and rolled my eyes.
"Fine! If I show you some of my stuff, can you go back to telling me about Zoe?" I laughed. Alicia nodded her head furiously. "What do you want me to do?"
"What can you do?" Alicia asked. I smiled.
"Give me something that won't break." I said. Alicia tossed me a stuffed animal, but instead of catching it, I turned in a circle, stepping back. As I did this, my eyes began to glow, and my hands flipped up with all of my fingers flexed out. Focusing all of my concentration on the stuffed animal, it suddenly stopped in mid-air. All while this was happening, my wings on instinct came out, making my body look bigger. I used my powers to send the animal back to Alicia and set it on her lap. My eyes slowly returned to their normal blue.
"Whoa." Alicia said.
"There's a lot more that you could see from me, Alicia." I said.
"I know, and I wish I had what you have." Alicia replied.
