Before I knew it, I made it through my first week being Zoe. It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be, except for a few slip-ups when talking about my life. Alicia was by my side almost 24/7, making sure that I wouldn't accidentally say something that might give me away. She had to cut me off twice, stomp my foot three times, and at least had to cover my mouth once since dealing with Josh.
Before I knew it, I was sitting on Zoe's couch, watching something called a TV, Friday night. Kayli and Zoe's mom were sitting next to me too, Kayli on her "phone" and Zoe's mom on her "computer." Humans sure had a lot of things that kept them busy besides human interaction.
Suddenly, a chime of a bell sounded.
"I'll get it." Kayli called out, turning off her phone and getting up. I decided to ignore the chime, since Zoe's mom was too. I went back to watching the TV, when I heard the door open. "Hi! Zoe's right in here." I heard Kayli say. I shrunk down as I heard two pairs of footsteps coming. Zoe's mom turned around from the couch, but I kept my gaze on the TV.
"Josh!" Zoe's mom said, getting up from the couch. "I didn't know that you were coming tonight!"
"Hello Mrs. Winkle. Zoe and I are going to a party, is she ready?" Josh asked, hugging Zoe's mom. I turned beet red and shrunk even more, still not looking over the couch.
"Well, I didn't know that she was going to a party! Zoe! Why didn't you tell me?" Zoe's mom asked me.
"Because I forgot?" I offered. And I didn't want to go in the first place. I thought.
"Well, get upstairs and get dressed! You're going to be late!" Zoe said, pulling me up from the couch and sending me upstairs. When I got to the top, I looked down at Josh, who was standing next to Zoe's mom and Kayli.
"Thank you, Mrs. Winkle. Zoe and I will have so much fun tonight!" Josh said. As he spoke the words, he glanced up at me, an almost evil grin forming on his face. I roles my eyes and kept walking.
I changed into a red top with a white heart in the middle, and a black skirt, with two black slip-on shoes. Brushing my hair, I saw my eyes glow in the mirror.
Alicia, you there? I sent to her through thought waves.
Yeah, what's up? Alicia replied. I could read her thoughts and send mine to her. I had shown her this so she could help me with basic things, like talking to people and doing things in the class they call PE.
Josh is here, what should I do?
Okay, so, you need to keep calm, and keep in control, don't let him think he's in control. Bring your phone and be on it, that's all everyone's going to do. I'll be there as soon as I can so I can help you.
Okay, thanks. I'll try to figure out how to text soon.
See you in a bit, and keep calm.
I shut the thoughts down, and my eyes went back to normal.
"Zoe! You coming?" Josh yelled up from down stairs. I put down the brush and huffed loudly. With a breath of nervousness, I headed back downstairs.
Josh and I said goodbye to Zoe's family, and he guided me out of the front door.
"Ready for this sick party, Zoe?" Josh asked. I stopped right as he put his arm around my shoulder.
"Slow down, hot shot. Don't touch me, don't talk to me, and we might get through this night alive." I snapped, putting my hands in front of me to cause some distance between us. He smiled and ran out in front of me, pulling the car door open for me. I rolled my eyes and got in, Josh slamming the door and walking around the car. I looked into the living room window to see Zoe's mom and Kayli watching us. I strapped my carseat on and covered my face from them, obviously turning red with embarrassment.
