I got back home a little after noon. When I went into the house it looked and sounded like no one was there. I headed upstairs and took a shower before changing into some more comfortable clothes. I went back downstairs and ran into Austin at the bottom of the stairs.
"Oh, hey are we still on to hang out?" He asked.
"Yeah," I replied smiling.
"How about now," he suggested motioning to the door.
I agreed and he grinned as we walked outside.
"We can go walk on the beach," he said before I could ask what we going to do.
I nodded and we started off down the beach. We walked down near the water and talked.
"So what did you do last night?" He asked.
"Just some dinner party thing," I told him.
"An Asher thing?" He asked.
I looked over at him, he was looking at me as if he dared me to give him a different answer.
"Yeah, an Asher thing," I replied shrugging.
"Speak of the devil," I heard him mumble.
I turned my head and I spotted him out in the water with some of his friends.
"What's up with you two?" I asked cocking an eyebrow.
"What do you mean?" He questioned.
"Whenever you guys are around each other there's tension so thick I could cut through it," I explained.
"I haven't noticed that," he replied not looking at me.
I stopped walking and narrowed my eyes at him.
"Yeah right, you two act like you hate each other, but you don't know each other."
He finally looked over at me and groaned when he saw that I wasn't leaving it alone.
"Maybe because we both want the same thing," he offered up.
"What does Asher want that you want too?" I asked confused.
Austin stared at me a moment before he let out a humorless laugh.
"If you really don't know the answer to that question, then I suggest you open your eyes," he told me.
He started walking again and so did I. Even though I still had no idea what he was talking about I dropped it. We continued walking down the beach talking about each others lives. We stopped and got a slushy before we started walking back. This time when we went past where Asher was my brother, Trey, and Alex were out there with him. My brother spotted us and made his way out of the water.
"Lexie is looking for you," he told me.
"Why should I care?" I asked.
"You guys are best friends," he answered and I scoffed. He rolled his eyes.
"Were best friends," he corrected dramatically.
"I don't care," I told him and started walking away.
"Just be at the house around six, we're all going out to dinner," he called out and I didn't bother turning back around.
"I thought you guys were fighting," Austin said catching up to me.
"We are," I replied simply.
"Then why is she looking for you?"
"How would I know?" I asked looking at him.
