I was in the living room, seated in between Trey and Alex, while all of us were practically ordered by my brother to watch a creepy movie. When I tried to refuse he came into to my room and half carried, half dragged me downstairs. We were almost half way through it and I’m pretty sure I had the same facial expression throughout the whole thing; disgusted. A person as being gutted when I felt my phone vibrated. I finally looked away from the screen and pulled it out.
Asher: Meet me outside.
I have never been so thankful for him bothering me in my entire life. I stood up and walked over to the front door, which was in the living room, hoping that somehow I would be able to walk out without my brother noticing.
“Where do you think you’re going?” I heard him ask from behind me.
I paused and stood there with my back facing him. I plastered on an innocent smile and turned around to face him.
“Out.”
“With who?”
“Asher,” I replied and I could see Lexie grinning from the corner of my eye.
“Didn’t he say that all his friends weren’t going to be there tonight?” Austin questioned and I wanted to hit him.
I could have made it work without my brother knowing that. I couldn’t help it, I dropped my fake smile and I death glared him when he looked away from me. He looked at me and I plastered on the smile again. I put my attention back on my brother and he raised an eyebrow.
“You are going over to Asher’s alone?”
“Nothing is going to happen,” I told him.
“Like nothing hasn’t already happened?” he asked.
“Do you trust me?” I questioned.
He stared at me for a second before replying, “Yeah, I trust you.”
“Then trust me with this, and tomorrow, if you want to ask me what happened, I’ll tell you.” I said.
“Fine,” he said reluctantly.
I grinned and went outside. I saw Asher standing down in the sand a little ways away from the house. I walked down to him and he turned and faced me.
“Did you get caught by your brother?” he asked.
“I was sitting in the living room with him and everyone else, of course I did,” I replied and his eyebrows shot up.
“He let you leave?”
“Yeah, he knows I’m with you, and Austin made sure that he also knew that no one else would be there.”
“Of course he did,” he rolled his eyes.
“Oh yeah, during our little chat you’re going to tell me why you two can’t stand each other,” I told him.
He just looked at me and didn’t say anything. We walked back to his house and went into the living room. I plopped down on the couch and he sat down next to me.
“We have two choices, watch a movie first, or have that conversation,” he told me.
“I don’t think you’re going to want that conversation first though because I have a feeling you won’t like what I have to say very much,” he added.
“Watch the movie first, I don’t usually like sticking around for serious conversations.” I said.
He got up and looked for a movie. We agreed on a Spiderman movie and he collapsed back on to the couch next to me. We sat like that for about a half an hour and I couldn’t pay attention to the movie, Asher was extremely tense and it bothered me. I reached over him and grabbed the remote, pausing the movie.
“Okay, talk,” I demanded.
He sighed and ran his hand through his hair, but wouldn’t look at me. I moved and sat on the arm of the couch so that I could look at him.
“How about we start with your question,” he said.
“Okay why don’t you and Austin like each other? I asked him the same thing and I didn’t really get an answer.”
“What did he tell you?” he asked.
“He said that you both wanted the same thing. So what do you want Asher?”
He finally looked at me, “You.”
I stared blankly at him, “What?”
“I want you,” he told me.
I stared at him, I didn’t know what else to do. I didn’t know how to reply to that. I just stared at him and blinked, waiting for my brain to take that in.
“What?” That was the only thing I managed to get out.
“I like you, I have for a while,” he replied and I shook my head, standing up.
“No, you’re a player and you have been for as long as I’ve known you,” I said.
“I’m not a player,” he denied and I looked at him like he was crazy.
“Yes you are!” I exclaimed, “Everyone at school has seen you with too many girls to count.”
“I’ll admit that I’ve kissed a lot of girls, but you’ve kissed a lot of guys and you aren’t player.”
“I didn’t hook-up with the guys I kissed!”
“I haven’t hooked-up with any girls that I’ve kissed in a long time,” he explained.
“You actually expect me to believe that even though I have seen you go into closets and bedrooms with girls?” I asked letting out a humorless laugh.
“Yes because that’s the truth.”
“Okay, when’s the last time you hooked-up with a girl?”
He opened his mouth and then closed it. I rolled my eyes and turned away from him. I heard him groan and he grabbed my arm, turning me to face him again.
“During Freshman year, before you actually started talking to me,” he told me and I let a laugh slip out.
“Then the closets and bedrooms, how do you explain that?” I asked amused.
“You didn’t stop and think that maybe I wanted you to see that?”
“Are you talking about making me jealous, that doesn’t really work on people who don’t like you, it makes them like you less,” I explained.
He grinned, “Well, that’s not the case with you because you do like me.”
I narrowed my eyes at him, “Really and why would you think that?”
That’s all it took and his lips were on mine. I was shocked, but after a second I responded. Oddly enough, pushing him away didn’t seem like a good idea. He pulled me closer and I ran my hands through him hair. I pulled away breathing hard and he grinned.
“That is how I know.”
I ignored his words and pulled him in again. He pushed me back on to a wall I didn’t know was there. I felt him smile against my lips and he pulled me closer to him, making sure there was no room in between us. My head was going haywire. We parted and this time I moved away from him. I went back to the couch and played the movie. After a minute I heard him cough and he sat down next to me. I looked over at him and he was staring at me with raised eyebrows.
“What?” I asked.
He stared then shook his head, throwing his arm around my shoulder, “Nothing.”
I rolled my eyes and turned my attention back to the TV, but not before I saw the small smile that crossed his face. We continued to watch the movie while one thought kept nagging me, Lexie was going to have a field day with this.
