Time slowed around me as I felt the familiar tingling sensation surge through my body. The constant torment from Damon and the relentless attacks from my 'family' did nothing but ignite the already increasing rage. This was it. This was the moment where I decided what kind of person I was going to be. I was going to be a killer. But I was not a murder or a monster. I was not going to kill for pleasure. I was going to kill for the people I cared about the most. I was going to kill to free the world from the likes of Damon. I was going to kill for Archer. Emma. Kye. Me. For me. With that I opened my eyes and began.Archer POV
Mate. That's all my wolf could focus on. As I watched the rouges charge at us I knew it was my duty to act as an Alpha and not as a mate. I needed to put the safety of my entire pack in front of the safety of my mate. But all I wanted to do was run to her and take her as far away from here as possible. This is why I didn't want a mate. When my head should be focused on defending my pack and my home all I can think about is her. My heart ached as I shifted into my wolf and charged to the front of the formation my warriors had created. I howled orders as we braced ourselves for the blow.
Suddenly a bright light engulfed the field, almost as if a flash bomb had gone off. Then the light vanished as fast as it came. It didn't take long to find the source of the light, and it made my blood run cold. Floating in the center of the field was River. Her eyes were so white they appeared to be glowing. Though she was the same, she looked entirely different. Everyone had stopped to take in the sight before them. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I knew there was something off about her. From the beginning I sensed she wasn't human. But what is she? I looked to Damon who had a smug look on his face. It all made since now. This is what his warning meant in the woods. Finally, she spoke.
"Enough, Damon. You will torment us no longer." Even something in the way she spoke was different. It was powerful.
"What are you standing there for? Attack!" Damon yelled before shifting into his wolf. His rouges snapped out of their enchanted phase before charging at us once more.
'Get ready!' I barked. Before they could reach us River slammed down in front of me, so hard the ground cracked. She shoved her hands forward, pumping fire and creating a flaming wall around us. I then watched in both disbelief and horror as she walked through the flames as if it was nothing. It wasn't until she was on the other side that I realized that she intended to take on all the rouges on her own.
The wolf in me howled and wanted to stop her, to protect her. But the man in me was wary of what this thing in front of me is. She began making her way to Damon, fending off rouges left and right. I watched as she summoned water from no where and froze a rouge dead in it's tracks. With a flick of her wrist a hole appeared below a dozen rouges, causing them to fall into nothingness. The hole then closes, trapping the wolves.
I looked around at my pack, their faces containing the same confused yet terrified expression as mine held. It wasn't until then that I realized that Kye wasn't with us in this ring of fire. I frantically looked at the battlefield to gratefully see him perched over Emma. He stood over her, his giant wolf frame protecting her slouched body from anything that would come close. He was in attack position, ready to defend her, but was clearly frozen with disbelief at what River was doing. It gave me comfort knowing he was out there and ready to fight for River if something went wrong.
I turned my attention back to River to find that she was feet from Damon. The remaining rouges had retreated in fear, leaving Damon alone. His wolf attempted to stand strong but I could see the fear in his eyes.
"Give up!" She demanded. He just stood there, watching her with a smug look. Like he knew something she didn't. It was then that I noticed a rouge running straight at her. She was too busy watching Damon to see the threat coming to her. My wolf stirred and without thinking I let out a loud roar.
