Day 2.

I wake up some time later and look up seeing sunlight, just barely coming in overhead.
I see the kid laying there, then put my head inbetween my legs.
"I had to... FUCK.... Why did it have to be a kid?"
I think to myself.

"Ok, well I didn't do that for nothing."
I stand up and grab the box of crayons, before pouring them out on the bed. I unholster the pistol and set it on the bed, then I pull out the tape and lighter. I pick up one of the crayons and light it, then set it down....

It glows better than expected, giving me a full view of the bed.
"Good, now I can atleast see in front of me."
I think to myself as I pick up two crayons, then grabbing the tape I rip off a piece....

I put the two crayons bottoms together, then I wrap the tape around them. Crafting a makeshift candle, it'll work until I can find another flashlight. I make another five of the candles, then sliding them into my pocket. I stand up and light one, before picking up the pistol and clicking the safety off. Walking to the door I look at the room adjacent to me, then remember the gun safe. I walk across and stick the candle in first, then stepping inside I walk over to the safe. I lean down and inspect it, "Ok, it's a six digit combination lock, with three sets of numbers and each set contains a double digit number." I think to myself as I realize my uncle had one like this....

Taking a step back I move to the desk, then searching for anything that could give me the numbers. I start pulling out drawers; finding pens, paper clips, staples, everything I don't need.
Then, I pull on one of the drawers and it doesn't slide out. I pull harder.

Nothing.

I pull out the KaBar and jam it into the drawer, then starting to wiggle it. The drawer shakes, before popping open slightly. I pull on it and nothing happens, so I jam the knife deeper and yank on the drawer.....

It finally slides open and there's just a small notebook, I pull it out and open it. Finding passwords, banking information, receipts, and a small key in the back page.....

I pull out the key and inspect in for any numbers, markings, just a sign to what it's for.
Nothing.
I slide it in my pocket, then go back to the notebook. Scanning through it I come to a page with six sets of numbers.

04-15-11

68-48-90

50-23-81

06-23-08

28-03-64

08-03-64

"Ok, so I have six sets of numbers and there seems to be no connection." I think to myself, then I grab a pen and look at them.

"Ok, so logically the answer seems like a birthday. He seemed to be a family man."
I think as my eyes scan over the various pictures of his wife and kids, then marking out the three that couldn't be a birthday.
"Ok, now
08-03-64, couldn't be it because they're too young."
I cross it out.
"Next,
06-23-08, wouldn't work either that little boy was about five."
I go back to the top of the page and see:
04-15-11.
"If I'm correct this was the little boy's birthday."

I turn around and face the safe using the crayon candle to see, then grabbing the knob I turn it to the left, getting the 04. Then, I twist right going past 0 to get to the 15, then I twist left and hear a click......

Excitedly I yank the door.....

Nothing.

Before I try the next set I look for where the click came from, then I discover the counter to the side of the knob. I was so excited that I didn't see a little rectangle box, with the number two inside of it.

"Ok, so it has a fail safe, probably a lockdown mode that requires a locksmith to break.... Great."
I turn around and check the notebook, deciding I needed to try the other two. Turning back around and try the next code..... Click.

I check the counter.
It shows a one now.

"Fuck."
I turn around and put my finger on the last set of numbers, then turn back around facing the safe. My hand goes to twist the knob, then something feels funny.

I turn around and look at the notebook.

"Why put exactly six sets, but better yet why put exactly three possible answers?"
I think to myself as I look at the numbers.....

I look at each set of numbers, then circle the first number in each one.

"Ok, so this would make the numbers 06-50-20." I think to myself.....

I turn around and face the safe, grabbing the knob I twist it left to 06. Then, I twist right to 50. Finally, I twist the knob left again........

Hearing almost like a thump, I pull the door and it pops open slightly.

"FUCK YEAH."
I scream at the top of my lungs, then shut up because I remember there could still be a horde of flesh-eating zombies outside.....
