I wake up slowly and kiss Sydney's head, before crawling over the back of the couch.
I walk into the kitchen and put two fingers on the coffee machine, then watch as it powers up.
"Thank god."
I say and start making coffee, before leaning back against the counter.

"River, can we talk?"
Rachel's voice says from behind me.

"Yeah."
I say and watch as the coffee begins to drop.

"Are you ok?"
She asks me and looks at me.

"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
I ask and pull down two cups.

"You've had to kill your mom, TWICE, you're in a constant battle in your head, you've already killed atleast one hundred people, and you're 15 acting like some leader who's been trained to do this."
She says and looks at me biting her lip.

"It's just what I have to do."
I say and wipe the dirt off my face.

"Yeah, but why? Let someone else shoulder these responsibilities."
She hops up on the counter and opens a pack of crackers.

"Nobody else can, if they could then they already would've.....
This isn't fun for me."
I say sadly and pour her cup, then hand it to her.

"I know, that's why I'm talking to you about it."
She says and takes a sip, before smiling and setting the cup down.

"What am I supposed to do?
Sit back and watch as Betas are exploited, and act like I'm too weak to do anything about it."
I say and pour my cup, before taking a big gulp.

"Yeah.... I guess you're right.
You do know that you're not a superhero though, that you can still die."
She says and looks at me with sad eyes.

"Yeah, it's not something I particularly worry about."
I say and take another gulp, before setting my almost empty glass down.

"Why not though? I just can't seem to wrap my head around that.
You're a child, yet you fear nothing, you fight like a grown man, and you take charge like a true leader."
She says and takes another sip.

"It's just natural instinct.
I don't think when I have to do something, I just do it."
I say and finish my cup, before setting it in the sink.

"What are you gonna do now?"
She asks and looks at me.

"How's Jake?"
I ask and look at her.

"Not good."
She says sadly and puts her cup down.

"I'm gonna go find help."
I say and secure my shoes, before standing up and making sure my belt is in place.

"I'm coming with."
She says and hops down.

"No, they need you here."
I say and check my pistol, before spraying myself with scent neutralizer.

"Yes, you need backup."
She says and goes to walk away.

"No, I'll be fine. Stay here."
I say and walk to the front door, then pack the gas mask back in the bag.

"UGHHHHH!!"
She says and looks at me.

I just laugh and pull the backpack on, before grabbing the SUV keys off the table.
"I'll be back."
I say and open the door, then step outside and close it.
I look down at my watch and see that it's 7:00, so I walk down the steps and look up.

The sky looks almost like there's a black aurora covering it, but you can still see the blue and the white of the normal sky.
It's like there's black wisps and mist, but it's just staying still and blocking the normal sky.....

"Well then."
I say and put the pack in the passenger seat, before climbing in the driver's seat.
I turn the key and feel her turn on, so I put it in drive and pull out of the driveway.
I love the feeling of actually driving, but I know we'll need a different car for long distance driving.
I decide to try the radio, but have no idea if anything will be on since the E.M.P.
