"Baby, is everything okay?"
I hear Sydney's sleepy voice, as I come back from being zoned out.

"Yeah, everything's fine.
Just lay down and get some rest."
I say and extinguish the flame.

"Are you sure? It's almost 09:00, I can get up."
She says and rubs her eyes.

"No baby, just lay down."
I say and lean my head back.
"I love you and I might not be here when you get up."
I say and watch the ceiling.

"I love you too and ok baby."
She says sleepily, before starting to snore.

"Pssst."
A noise comes from behind me.

I turn around and look in the darkness.

"Psssst."
The sound comes again.

I stand up and slowly pull out the KaBar, before hopping the couch and creeping back there.
My night vision kicks in and I see a small shape, sitting in the office.
"Serena?"
I ask at the person turned around in the chair.

"Yeah, I didn't wanna be loud."
She says, before turning around to look at the blade.

I slide it back into it's holster, before sitting down in the computer chair.
"What's wrong?"
I ask and look at her.

"Why did you lie to them when they asked where?"
She asks and looks at me.

"I needed to protect them, and I didn't know who I was gonna be facing."
I say and scan her.

"They could've helped."
She says and looks at me.

"They also could've died.
There's a 50/50 chance in any given scenario now, that someone could die.
In that scenario, the likely hood of them dying, would've been about 70/30.
I'm not willing to chance that."
I say back.

"Where do you get these statistics?
Where in the hell are you coming up with these facts?"
She says raising her voice.

"Hold on."
I put my hand on her leg, then focus on the roof of Walmart.
I blink and we're standing on the roof.
"You wanna have this talk, let's go.
Where I get these statistics from, is my eyes and head.
I've watched people die.
I've killed people.
I've slaughtered entire groups, and we've been at this shit for two weeks.
Now, think about two months.
Hell, two years.
What happens when the Omegas start evolving, they start adapting to become better killers?"
I say and stick my hand up, then watch as a black fireball shoots out......

The gas station explodes, sending metal and debris everywhere.

"WHAT THE HELL HAPPENS, WHEN I CAN'T PROTECT EVERYONE ANYMORE?"
I yell as tears starts streaming down my face.

Serena just steps forward and hugs me, wrapping me up in her arms.
"I'm sorry, River.
No-one should have to go through this."
She says and squeezes me tighter, before pulling away.

"It's ok, it's not your fault.
You didn't cause all of this."
I say and squeeze her, before letting go.

"River, I have a weird question."
She says and steps back, before looking up at me.

"Shoot."
I say and look at the gas station, as fireballs shoot up.

"Can you teach me how to fight?"
She asks and look at the burning station.

"Ok, I have a question."
I say back and look at her.

"Go."
She says and turns to me.

"Do you wanna learn how to fight, or how to survive?"
I ask and look into her eyes.
