Ja'far tapped the tip of his quill against the desk absentmindedly. He had a list in front of him. Another list of stupid things the king wanted for a party. Ja'far let out an irritated groan and started tapping the quill just a bit harder. He understood the king wanting to throw a party for Ada's arrival, but why did it have to fall on him to do the planning? Not to mention a majority of the list is hardly appropriate for a party celebrating the arrival of a child. The white-haired man's hand steadily increased speed and force as he tapped the pen against the wooden desk. A snapping sound could be heard. 'Damn it...' he thought to himself, letting out a sigh. How could he be so careless? He pushed his chair out from his desk and stood up. The day was getting late. It's time for Sinbad to get to work.
He pushed the door to Ada's room open just enough for him to slip inside. The sight of the two asleep still made him smile, but he had to force a stern look in order for Sin to listen. He quietly walked over and shook the king gently. He opened his eyes, to look at who had woken him up. Not that he didn't have a good idea of who it was anyways.
"Sin...It's getting late. You still have work you need to finish." Ja'far whispered, looking at his king, who groaned in response. Ja'far, completely ignoring Sinbad's protests, put one hand under Ada's head and the other wrapped around and grabbed her waist from the other side. He gently scooted Ada out of her father's lap and onto her own pillow. Her eyes opened slightly, and she slurred out incoherent words in a half asleep manner. Her eyes squinted open to look at Ja'far, whom had touched her.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to wake you." He apologized in a whisper to Ada. She simply nodded and closed her eyes again. Ja'far tugged on Sinbad's arm, attempting to get the man up and succeeding. Sinbad reluctantly left his daughter.
After some arguing in the hall, the king agreed to let Ja'far get Ada something to eat. He couldn't argue with 'I finished my work, you haven't even started.' So off Ja'far went to the kitchen, where the cooks happily whipped up some soup for the sick girl.
He pushed open the door, carrying a tray with the soup and some tea. The former assassin gently shook Ada, waking her up. Her golden eyes peered up at him with curiosity.
"I brought you something to eat." He told her, setting the tray down and pushing her hair out of her face.
"Thank you" she croaked, obviously still not fully awake. Ja'far just nodded in reply. The hand that moved her hair, laid on her forehead, checking her temperature once again. The man was relieved. While it was still present, it had gone down drastically.
The girl shuffled a bit and sat up, when Ja'far went to hand her the bowl of soup. The tea and tray were still on her night stand. Ja'far ruffled her hair slightly, causing Ada to smile. He could tell she was feeling much better, which in return, made him smile as well. He turned around to leave, but Ada stopped him at the door.
"Ja'far!" She called out. The man turned to look at her in a questioning manner. "You're my best friend ever!" She gave him a big, closed eye smile. His eyes widened a bit as he wasn't expecting that. But he smiled gently at her.
"You're mine too." He tells her. Her golden eyes opened and her smile became even bigger, if that was at all possible. He just couldn't believe what an impact Ada had already made on his life.
