Chapter 34:

Maddie's Pov:

Today was the day. The day I become, a single mother.

I wanted to crawl in my bed and die. I wanted to hide, do whatever I could to avoid this stupid situation. But i couldn't.

I put my hair in curls as I was getting ready. I wore a black shirt with jeans and black toms. I went simple, but affective. I guess.

Its been 2 days since i found that letter and it changed my point of view on things, but i have to put my girls first. So , I had to do it.

I don't want to, but I have to.

"Thanks El." I say and hang up the phone. She's gonna be watching Sammy while I take Leah in with me. I can't do this alone.

"Mrs. Horan?" The judge asks. I nod and stand behind the desk.

I look over and see Niall enter the room.

Shaggy pants, a white tee, white converse, messy hair , and it looks like he hasn't shaved in a month.

He was a mess.

Leah looked at him with wide teary eyes because he broke his promise to her, although hes here, and still alive.

"This, ladies and gentlemen is a court date for the custody of Samantha Horan, and Leah Horan. Also, the divorce. Did you bring in your papers?"

I nod and hand the papers to the cop, who takes it to the judge.

"Now... Madelynn. Explain to me why you believe you need custody for your daughters ?"

"Well, your honor, I am the mother of them, and I keep them in a safe environment, a roof over their head, and food in their stomachs."

"And Mr. Horan?"

"I am the father and I don't believe Madelynn can't take care of two girls, by herself, Leah, our oldest, is pregnant with a child of her own."

I stare at him in shock that he could say such a thing.

"Okay. Uh, short break. I have to do something." She says.

I give her a confused look as a couple people leave.

"Short recess break, love." Niall smirks at me.

"Shut it, Horan." I say through gritted teeth.

"Why? Because you know im right ?"

"No! You aren't right Niall! Who freaking raised Leah? Me. So how the hell can i not do it with two girls? Hm?"

"You can't do anything without me, Maddie. Im your husband."

"Youre gonna be my ex- husband soon."

Although I don't want you to be.

"Yeah? Lets just say I didnt sign the papers." He smirks.

"What?!"

"Why should I ? Maybe I don't want a divorce?"

He was acting brave, but it looked like he was gonna cry.

"I want one."

No I don't.

"Well, I don't." He says.

I know that. Neither do I.

"Too bad. Who let down his daughter ? Again?" I say.

He looks at Leah who is looking down and ignoring him.

"I've been... Busy?"

"Doing what?"

He stays silent.

"You aren't even the guy I knew then Niall." I say.

"What do you want me to do Maddie?" He raises his voice, "go back in time? Change things ?"

"I wish you could."

"Do you wish you never met me?" He asks quietly.

"Just tell me you don't love me, and Ill leave forever."

"I-" his eyes water as he stares into mine.

"I - I don't, I can't." I whisper.

His face brightens and he smiles nervously.

"You love me?"

I nod with tears in my eyes and know we look like two love struck idiots.

"I love you, Maddie." He says and takes a step towards me.

"I-"

"Order !"

Damn you, judge.

We moved back to our places and she looked at her papers.

"I see that Mr. Horan didnt sign the papers...." She says, and looks sternly at him.

"Uhm, yeah." He scratches the back of his neck.

"Are you gonna sign them?" She asks.

"Yes."

My heart sank once more.

The police officer handed him the papers and my throat felt tight.

Right when he was going to sign he was interrupted.

"I object!"

"Leah?"

He turned to her and she came into where we were.

"You two cant do this! You both love eachother and you know it. Why must you guys do this to Sammy too? I was a baby when he left, came back, then left again. I refuse to let you do that to her. She deserves more... She deserves parents that love eachother like they did as teenagers! Why cant you be happy? What makes you this upset that you have to get a divorce ? When is this bull crap gonna stop? And most importantly, when will you two realize you were made for eachother?!" She says, her voice rising at the second.

Niall looks at me then at the judge.

"Can we have a moment?"

She nods and starts to talk to the cop.

He walked up to me and looked me in the eyes.

"I fucking love you Maddie. And I can't live without you." He whispers, his hand on my cheek softly.

"I love you too... And I can't live without you." I whisper and lean in.

We kiss and automatically, everything I felt when we first started dating came back.

I was in love. And I really honestly dont think I could fall out.
