We found Gabe on top of Dinah pretending to tackle her to the ground and her wiggling underneath him pretending she was blocked."Dinah, quick question, did you teach my son how to beat people down?" My tone was serious.
"Self defense... maybe... yeah."
"Ugh, Dinah." I sighed sitting back on the couch.
"What?" She asked with an innocent tone.
"He sure did 'defend' himself yesterday."
"Uh-oh..." She said looking at the kid that shrugged at her.
I couldn't help but laugh at the scene, there was no way I could've been mad at them.
Dinah looked at the time, "You guys were away for a while..." She smirked at me but as soon as her eyes landed on Camila her expression changed; I turned to look at the girl but she quickly looked somewhere else, I had the feeling she had been glaring at Dinah just a moment before.
Did she shoot her a look to make her leave me alone? Did she just try to protect me?
I was confused, I patted the seat next to me for her to reach.
Gabe too got close and sat on my lap, Dinah looked at us and smiled "Well, I guess I have something to do somewhere else, bye guys!"
I laughed and we all waved at her, who was almost outside the door.
"What do you guys wanna do?" I asked toying with my kid's hair.
"I wanna take a nap right here." Gabe said, snuggling his face against my breast.
I hugged him tightly and rubbed his back as he relaxed.
I looked at Camila that had a goofy smile looking at us.
"What do you wanna do?"
She shrugged. "I could try and make us some lunch..."
I chuckled. "I really like this kitchen though," I referred to a conversation we had had on how she managed to light a microwavable mac and cheese cup on fire once.
She pouted and I bit my lip smiling.
I looked at my son that was seriously asleep in my arms, I knew Dinah made him lunch at the right time, it was only Camila and I that were too busy eating each other faces to think about actual food.
I kissed the kid's head and breathed in his scent.
"You could make some salad, that way nothing will catch fire."
She nodded and got closer to me as if she wanted to give me a kiss, but as soon as she was close enough that I could feel her breath against my lips and my stomach drop again she just retracted and got up. Nice payback.
I snorted and laid down on the couch with my kid still wrapped in my arms.
"Laur, can I ask you something?" She said while scanning all the stuff I had in the fridge.
"I guess we said we wanted to get to know each other... so go ahead."
"Have you had any relationships after Gabe's father?"
"That's being direct." I chuckled a little nervous looking down at my son.
"I know, I'm sorry, it sounded better in my head, I didn't mean to... it would just explain your reaction from before..."
"No problem, you're right, I haven't had any relationships after him."
"Not even one-night stands or anything?" damn it.
