Chapter 20 ~ Respect among Fighters

A/N so, how have you been? do you like the story so far? this story is going to start getting faster after the next chapter since they is basically only one more main character to introduce. for those who want Vanitas, he is accepted into the academy in the next chapter. anyway, enjoy~

''Where the hell am I?'' you sighed.

Dire had decided to stay in bed once you read about what you had to do. An alarm clock had woken you both up and next to it was a note from Mephisto to go to the 17th floor, Main Office. You had been assigned a bounty hunting job, to take down a Wyrm named Shinryu, also known as a Wyrm God. Unfortunately, you was also assigned a partner so you'd have to be careful when fighting. But this was a good opportunity to use the rapier that was found; Alaster.

However, you would have to find out where you was suppose to go first. You sighed and slumped against the wall; crossing your arms and tapping your finger impatiently. You tried to map out which routes you had already taken but with everything looking the same; it was impossible. And since Rag wouldn't help by confusing the shadows, you was officially lost.

''Are you lost?'' a males voice said from a little further away from you.

You looked up to see a young man with slightly long hair and blue-green eyes; he was tall, but not the tallest. He wore a long sleeved white and yellow coat with a blue necktie, gray pants and black boots. He had a soft smile and warm eyes, but you could tell he was confident. He didn't look much of a fighter but you something told you he could easily fight off a few difficult monsters. 

''Uh, yeah. I'm supposed to go to the main office for a job,'' you replied.

''Your not [f/name] [l/name] by any chance?'' he asked with a small frown.

''Yeah, that's me. And you are?'' your eyes became hard.

''I'm sorry, it just surprised me that you were the one going on the mission. I didn't expect you to be so young. I'm Hope Estheim, Vice President for the Bounty Hunting Department,'' he greeted with his smile.

''Well then, it's nice to meet you Hope,'' you nodded as he motioned for you to follow. 

''So, your the one who's been the latest talk then. I missed the opening ceremony so I've only heard rumors... not all of them modest in nature,'' Hope trailed off.

''You get used to it, especially when you've dealt with people like Dante,'' you gave a dry laugh.

The older male chuckled, ''Yeah, that's true...'' Hope went quiet for a moment before speaking again. ''Are you really okay with all this? The fighting I mean. From what Mephisto said, you've been fighting for a while. Your 15 you know, you don't have to do these kind of things,'' he said with a more serious tone.

It kind of surprised you that he turned serious all of a sudden but you understood why he would say something like that. ''You've been fighting from a young age to huh? Hmm, I guess I could stop fighting, but then again I am fighting for something so it would defeat my purpose in life,'' you hummed.

''You purpose in life? Fighting's not everything you know.'' the older male snapped lightly.

''Don't judge me when you don't know me. I have my reasons, you have yours. Yes, everyone has a choice; but I only have choices on one side of the scale,'' you said coldly.

The young man didn't bother saying anything else, he had lost and he knew that. You continued to follow him for a few more minutes until you came to a set of wooden double doors. Hope knocked on it three times and waited till a males voice said 'come in.'

The silver haired male opened the door for you and gestured for you to enter. However, you stopped in your tracks a couple of steps in, a man with blond hair and blue eyes was playing chess with Mephirsto Pheles. Considering what the name plate said, you had no doubt about who this man was. Rufus Shinra.
