This couldn't be happening.

The world stood still, I only heard my quickening breaths.

I couldn't think, couldn't wrap my thoughts around it.

Never would I have imagined him to be the son of such a sardistic asshole.

Well, just another dissapointment. It wasn't like I wasn't used to it. I should have expected it. How naive had I been to think that my life could actually take a turn to the better? If anything, it would get worse.

We were dismissed shortly after and returned to our work.

The confused mutters continued.

"He doesn't look very intimidating," someone near me said.

Oh I wouldn't be too sure about that. He carries a fucking gun, for god's sake.

"Yeah, I wonder why Boss left him in charge," another said.

Obviously he had a lot of trust in him, which meant Brendon was the same as his father.

The conversation died soon after that because the machines started and the words were drowned out.

I couldn't help but notice that there were more guards than usual prowling through the aisles. Maybe daddy didn't trust his son all that much after all.

I didn't know just how much time passed but I was surprised when the machine I was working on shut down suddenly. Then the one next to it. The whole row turned off.

We stared at each other confused, not knowing what was happening.

"What's going on?" Someone asked me, and I shrugged, leaning against the wall and enjoying the surprise break.

I opened my eyes as I heard footsteps approaching and couldn't help but feel a little scared.

What if they somehow found a way to blame this on us?

Would I get fired after all?

This day was an emotional roller coaster.

My breath hitched as I laid eyes on who had appeared. Accompanied by several guards, he sashayed towards us, wearing slightly different clothes than yesterday.

More formal.

A white blouse and a black over coat, with black pants, a matching top hat and a walking stick in his right hand, which he wasn't using normally, of course not, no, he was swinging it around just like the gun yesterday.

Christ, this boy needed to learn how to hold things safely.

"Don't look so grimm! I've just decided to grant you all a few breaks in between to boost production rate and-"

He stopped abruptly as he laid eyes on me.

Oh god, here goes.

We stared at each other for a while before his astonished expression turned into a sly grin. How scary.

"Um. Anyways, let's just see how it goes," he cleared his throat and finished his sentence. He left without giving me another glance.

***

I was exhausted. Maybe I really should have rested yesterday instead of aimlessly walking around and running into people I would regret meeting later on.

At least this day was over and I could finally return home. Hopefully my father found his way back as well.

"Well, well, well. See what the wind blew in."
