As time went on, Judy and Jacob became extremely close. She couldn't help but crave for him to come visit her, or for her to go visit him. He began coming to her job more often, sitting in her office and talking. It was an addicting drug for her. Nick was gradually being pushed out of the picture. She and Nick began to argue nonstop about her and Jacob being together.
"He's bad news Judy!"
"How would you know." She growled.
"Just look at him! He's pathetic! He's obviously trying to woo you over to his side to make me look like the enemy!"
"You have got to be kidding me." Judy groaned out loud.
"You need to believe me!"
"I won't."
"Well you have to!"
"Why would I believe you Nick, huh? Why would I!"
"Because I'm the one who knows how a deceitful person is more than anyone else!" It came to the point where Nick broke something in her apartment. The vase that held the flowers Nick had bought for her.
"What is wrong with you?!" Judy yelled, petrified at the attitude Nick was developing.
"What is wrong with YOU." Nick spat. "You're in love with a fabricated lie! Just because he's a rabbit doesn't mean he's the automatic right match for you, Carrot-top!"
"You need to stop calling me that."
Nick winced at her statement. "Huh?"
"You see, we aren't even like that to the point where you call me those cutesy names. So if you don't mind, why don't you just STOP."
Nick stood silent, glaring at Judy for a good ten seconds. "Fine. I won't call you anything of the sort anymore."
Judy's heart was crushed by his response, inviting him to take his leave. He gladly did so, and hadn't visited her since.
Jacob came late one night, wanting to visit the sadden girl. He knocked on the door, coming in. "Judy?" He called out.
He heard Judy moping in the living room, a box of tissue being filed out. He quickly sat by her, rubbing her back. "Are you alright?"
"No..." She sniffled. "I lost a friend."
"Who?"
"Nick!" She bawled.
Jacob was shocked. Deep down inside he was happy, but his girlfriend wasn't. He had no other choice but to try and comfort her. "Don't worry about him...I'm sure he was overreacting, right?"
"He was!" Judy agreed. "He's so upset up about us being together...I don't even understand why..."
Jacob eyed Judy with sympathy, embracing her. "Shh...everything'll be alright. Just you wait." He gently turned her face to his. "If he can't make you happy, then let me be the one to restore your happiness."
Judy was being to feel as though the sensation of love was developing between the two. It just had to be so. Jacob had hinted that perhaps they could be engaged. But Judy stood down on the offer for a while. It appeared to be, 'to early' for her to be that committed.
Jacob couldn't agree more.
Judy made it to work on time, swiping her card and getting right down to business. She had received a follow up on the report of Daniel Camo. Nothing really popped up. She headed down to her office, noticing Nick sitting in Chief Bogo's office. She was puzzled, wondering why Nick could have possibly been in there. He was never in the chief's room ever since he had join the force.
Finally finishing, he took his leave. He opened the door, stunned to see the little rabbit looking up at him.
"Oh, hi Judy."
Judy winced at the hearing of Nick calling her by her real name. It was rather painful, more than delightful...and awkward.
"Hi, Nick!" Judy greeted trying to be cheerful. "What's up?"
"Nothing...just..." Nick held up his badge, and clenched it.
"I noticed you were talking to the chief...did anything happen?"
"What's it to you? You'd probably be happy that I'm off your back."
Judy's heart sank tremendously. "Don't tell me you're leaving the police department!"
"So what if I am?"
"No! You can't!" Judy pleaded.
"And why not?" Nick arched his eyebrow.
"Because, we're partners!"
"Well I wasn't planning on leaving anyways. Plus, we aren't partners. Partners doesn't just take their leave for another job in the same business just to please their fellow mate." He spat.
Judy felt terrible, eyeing the ground. "I'm sorry."
"Well, I'm sorry too." Nick began to walk off. "All I'm doing is being a crossing guard. Nothing major."
Judy didn't know how to respond, but she was happy, hearing that the orange fox wasn't planning on leaving the ZPD.
Nick had been counting up to the last day of April. He kept a mini calendar on him every day, checking off the days until the day Judy had said she was originally going to visit her parents. But it never happened.
Two weeks in total, and Nick and Judy had appeared to be more distant that ever. Not even a hello reached in between them. Carrie tried talking to him, but Nick wouldn't budge. Some days, he wouldn't even come to work, which worried both Carrie and Judy. But on the days he did, he planted a counterfeit smile on his cheeks and did his job. He was helping two older adult pigs walk across the street, overhearing their conversation.
"Have you heard, there's a thief that's messing up markets and companies?"
"He's a sneaky one, alright!"
"How can he do all that damage on his on? The stock market is nearly dropping drastically!"
"I heard that he has a helper dealing his dirty work."
"Seriously?! Do you know who?"
"A dirty little hare."
"A hair?"
"Yeah, those vermin can be as sneaky as a fox!"
Nick rolled his eyes.
"Oops! Except you dearie, you're a sweetheart!" The pig mended.
"How can a hair do that? Isn't it a speck of DNA?"
The other pig sighed. "Not a hair, a HARE!!! As in the rabbit!"
"OH!"
"There's a rabbit going around preying on innocent girls, trying to become close with them in order to get information out of them about credit cards, banks, companies, and more! He uses the same tactics too!"
"Really?"
"That rabbit likes to use the same ole thing: he finds girls who are alone, takes them home; he take girls into the park, making them feel romantic until they believe they have hope in him to be the perfect match...it's a mess. I just hope the police catch him and that hyena!"
"Dear lord, I hope so too!"
After escorting the two to the other side of the street Nick's jaw fell, leaving in a daze.
