Judy hummed to the beat of "Try Everything", playing with a rubber ducky. She was cruising in her bath, sailing the duck away. The water was pretty deep, too high for a bunny her size, so she had to buy a water-proof chair that was high enough to at least allow her to relax and lay inside the wet substance.

She moaned with satisfaction---a mango smoothie was stood on the stand next to the tub at a perfect distance. "Ah..." Taking a sip and putting the cup back down, she simmered with joy, splashing her feet a bit.

That was until, a door was slammed shut.

Judy's eyes shot open and she glanced at the door. Her heart began to fly out of her chest, and she hurriedly rolled out the tub and into her bathrobe. Opening the door gently, she peered into the hallway. No one was there. But she did hear someone.

She gradually followed the noise to the living room, and she peeked around the corner, noticing that Nick was on the couch, slouched over and his paws covering his face. Something was obviously wrong.

"Nick...?" Judy whispered as she finally pulled forward to greet him. But oddly enough, the fox was not jumping into his hyper mood. "Nick...?" Judy repeated once more. She reached out to Nick to touch his hand, but he flinched at her approach, and scooted over away from her.

"What's wrong?" She mumbled loud enough to him. Her tone was soft and was filled with emotion and concern. Sitting next to him, she tried to nudge him, but he wouldn't budge. "Nick."

"Please...just...leave me alone for a while..."

Judy winced at his plea, but, seeing that he seemed to be more broken than she was, Judy sucked up her feelings and tried to press on. "Did something happen...?" Judy asked. "Did you have an argument or---"

"---PLEASE. Just go away..."

Judy finally got the picture and glowered at Nick's lashing. She stood up and went away, slamming her bedroom door shut.

Satisfied by the anger of his beloved, Nick finally parted ways with his hands and exhaled deeply. He covered his mouth, staring in meditation at the table. "Wow...reality really hurts when you avoid the situation entirely..." He lay back on the couch and groaned to himself.

Never had a fox felt this angered in his life. What is going on that is making everyone so hurtful to one another?

He knew he offended Judy. Especially in her own home, he should likely apologize.

Just do it...He thought to himself.

He stood up and walked over to her the bedroom door and knocked.

Judy was stunned by the subtle sound that echoed. "C-Come in...?"

Nick opened the door slowly and peered inside, smiling innocently. "Hey Carrot."

Judy closed her book and arched her eyebrow. "Yes...?"

Slowly, he sat next to her on the bed. He took her hands and sighed. "I'm sorry for my angry outburst. I'm not being as much of a good boyfriend as I thought I would be..." He lowered his head, shamed just thinking about his attitude earlier.

Judy petted him moderately and smiled reassuringly. "What happened? You were terribly upset...it made me feel hurt when you pushed me away like that."

"I know---and you didn't deserve that! You see...I had a big argument with my mother..."

"What?! But you just met her again in like how many years!"

"She didn't agree with what I told her and it seriously pissed me off."

"Well, what did she say?"

Nick's lips parted for a moment, but they immediately shut, like as if he was about to accidentally let the cat out of the bag. "Nothing. Don't worry about it." He pushed her hands away and rubbed the back of his head.

"Nick. She obviously said something that offended you. So why don't you tell me so we can talk this through?"

"Because it will wound you more than it offends me." Nick deadpanned.

And Judy took the hint. "You told her, didn't you...?"

He nodded.

"And...she didn't approve of it either huh?"

Nick shook his head. "Carrie was there to see it too..."

Judy's eyes widened, stunned. "Carrie...?"

"She just had to see it." Nick shook his head and scoffed getting up. "Life's a hot mess, I'll tell ya that. It seems as though the more you try to make a difference in this damn city, nothing good happens. This damn place is not even Zootopia, it's a Dystopia."

Judy lies in bed and sighs to herself, staring at the ceiling. "So, we're in the same boat then I guess?"

"I guess so." Nick pulled off his shirt and lied next to her.

"I'm sorry that your mom didn't agree with you...I was hoping she was different from my ridiculous parents." Judy admitted.

"Well, I guess it was too good to be true."

"Not always..." Judy mumbled.

"Yeah? We'll see about that." Nick smirked. "In the meantime," Nick reached his paws out to Judy sinisterly. "How about we---"

Judy kicks him off the bed as his face came clashing with the fuzzy carpet. "One, put your shirt back on, two, go sleep on the couch outside you pervert."

Nick sat up, using the bed as his support and rubbed his head. "Ow...what the hell? What did I do to deserve that."

"Oh, hmm..." Judy tapped her chin, staring at the ceiling as if an answer would magically spawn. "Well, if you insist, we can always find out when I kick your ass and have you begging for mercy you perve."

Nick's jaw dropped. "You know, that's not actually a half bad idea!"

"Ugh, just get out!"

Nick laughed, getting up and tossed his shirt back on. "You're right Carrot. Maybe I should insist. And then I'll get the perks." He grinned.

"Dream on." Judy rolled her eyes.

"Oh believe me, I've been dreaming long enough."

Judy cringed with disgust, wishing she never tried to make a reverse joke with his dirty lines. But before she knew it, Nick was back to his former, degraded self. "If I knew my mother wasn't different from the rest...I wouldn't have wasted my time today to visit her..."

Judy reached over to Nick. "Well, she still is your mom, so it was nice of you to visit her. But not all parents will have the same thoughts and feelings as their children, Nick. Remember that."

"I try to...but sometimes...I wish they did have our feelings, so they could know that we have a mind of our own that wants some emotional stability from them too."

Judy grabbed Nick's face and began to cry. "But Nick, we have each other. Don't worry about them...they already have a life to live. Don't worry about them....please..." She touched her forehead to his and began to sulk.

Nick felt terrible that he brought such a depressing mood upon them. He hugged her tightly and kissed her. "Don't cry Judy, you're stronger than me in every which way. I need you to be strong for me...so don't fall apart because of our lives...be strong because you are able to withstand the trails within them."

Judy nodded as her head was covered by his warm neck.

Nick sighed, looking out the window and continued to rub her back.

What kind of lives are we living...?
