"Hey look Shawn, I got 1 million views on my newest cover I posted to YouTube!" Jess exclaimed, shoving her phone in her boyfriend's face. Shawn smiled and laughed.
"That's awesome Jess! I'm so happy for you!" For the past few weeks, Jess had gotten more confident and posted videos of her singing on YouTube. Shawn had posted pictures all over social media telling people to go watch them. Jess was getting more and more popular as time went on. She was already known for being Shawn's girlfriend and now she was starting to be known for her singing too. Some people even started fan page Instagram accounts for her.
"I have you to thank for this muffin. If you never helped me realize that I could actually sing, none of this would have been possible. Thank you for that." Jess said, holding Shawn's hand.
"Your welcome, but you already know I would do anything for you." Shawn said as he lifted her off her feet and held her baby-style. He walked down the stairs in his house with Jess in his arms. She held onto him, trying not to show her fear of being dropped. When they got downstairs into the kitchen, Shawn's mom was standing there making pasta.
"Sweetheart, what are you doing?" She asked her son.
"What does it look like? I'm getting my exercise for the day. Lifting some weight." Shawn said matter-of-factly. Jess gasped exaggeratedly.
"Are you saying I am fat!?" She said giving him a look. Shawn immediately regretted what he said and turned red. He was like a boov from that movie Home. Whenever he felt an emotion, he turned that color. Right now he was embarrassed so he was red.
"Oh no! I'm not saying your fat! Your extremely light, I could hold you all day. I was just kidding, making a joke! Not trying to talk about your weight because yo-" Jess cut Shawn off with a kiss. His red cheeks turned pink then back to regular color.
"Just joking. I know I'm not fat. And I don't need anyone to tell me. 'Cause I'm just that awesome." Jess snickered. Shawn's mom slammed her hand on the counter.
"You see! That is the kind of girl we need more of in this world! One that does not care what people think! Shawn, you picked a good girl! She is a keeper!"
Shawn smiled and gently placed Jess on the ground. Then the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it." Shawn said and walked to the door. Jess followed him. When he opened it, a girl stood at the doorstep. She was tan and had Carmel colored hair. Her hair was in a messy french braid and she wore a crop top and very short jean shorts. She was probably around "5,8" so she had a few inches on Jess.
"Shawn!" She yelled and pulled him into a tight hug.
"Alli!" Shawn said and hugged her back.
"I missed you so much Mendes! How long has it been, a year?" The girl-Alli-asked.
"Yeah, I think so. Wow, it's great to see you, come in." Shawn said sweetly and let Alli in, closing the door behind her. Jess just stood there awkwardly. When Shawn so her discomfort, he introduced the girls to each other.
"Uh, Alli, this is Jess, my girlfriend. Jess, this is Alli, my ex but we are just good friends now." Alli smiled kindly at Jess and stuck out her hand. Jess shook it and smiled back.
"Hi Jess, it's so nice to meet you. I heard you in YouTube and girl, you sound good."
Jess blushed. "Thanks. I love your shirt by the way." The girls continued to smile at each other, a little TOO nicely.
"I'm gonna get us some drinks." Shawn said and walked back into the kitchen.
Once he was out of sight, Alli's face darkened.
"First thing you should know, it's not nice to meet you. Second, you sound like a dying horse, and three, don't talk to me. Hearing your voice is giving me a headache." Alli said and rolled her eyes at Jess. She flipped her hair and walked to follow Shawn, who heard nothing.
Right away, Jess wished she could take back the complement she gave Alli. Today was going to be an interesting day.
