warning! this contains character death

A crawler is a zombie that crawls on its stomach. It's the fastest kind of zombie.

Lurkers usually travel in groups as small as four and as big as thirty. They stay in the same area, and a large group of them is called a horde.

He was dead. He was gone. He was lost to the lurkers. He was lost to the zombies. He was lost to the undead.

Marinette knew once she saw him. His skin was pale, his eyes were glazed over, his cheeks hollow.

Adrien isn't dead, she thought. He can't be dead. Hurt, sick, anything but dead.

She knew she was crazy. She knew he was dead. She knew as soon as she held his head in her lap, his hands in hers. No warmth.

She checked for a pulse. It wasn't there.

How? Marinette thought. Why? He can't be dead.

She let out a sob. She screamed. She wailed. She cried.

Lurkers around the area were alerted by the sound.

Adrien twitched. Marinette silenced herself and looked at his face hopefully as tears streamed down her face.

Alya and Nino had already packed everything and we're ready to go. But Marinette wasn't moving.

"Mari, we have to go. Now!" Alya urged as she tugged on Marinette's arm.

"No," Marinette replied without even thinking about it.

"We're gonna die! Hurry up!" Nino said.

"No. If Adrien's dead, I'm dead. I'm not moving," Marinette replied, her voice shaky. The zombies were really close now.

"Marin–"

"No! You both go, right now." Marinette wasn't moving. She stayed where she was. Adrien was moving slightly now.

"Mari, please. Come with us," Alya begged.

"No. Take my stuff and go. Save yourselves. Live another day."

"Ma–"

"She's not moving, Alya. We can't change her mind," Nino told Alya.

"But she can't stay! She's my best friend, Nino! If she stays, I stay."

"Then if you're staying, I'm staying."

"No, you aren't. Both of you go, right now," Marinette demanded.

She shrieked. Adrien had gotten up and bitten her.

"Go!" She screamed as blood streamed from her shoulder right where Adrien had bit it.

Adrien was completely attacking Marinette now. She wanted to defend herself, but couldn't bring it upon herself to hurt Adrien, even if he was trying to kill her.

"MARI!" Alya screamed, desperately trying to help her friend as Nino held her back.

"Alya, we have to go! Let Mari join Adrien, sort-of. She's not going to move," Nino reasoned as he killed a lurker.

"Guys! Go now! I'll keep them over here focused on me," Marinette weakly said.

"I'm staying. If we're going to die, we're dying toge–AHH!" For the short amount of time Alya and Nino let their guard down by the slightest degree, Alya had gotten bitten on the leg by a crawler.

"Alya!" Nino stomped on the crawler's head, permanently killing it.

He tried to defend himself and save Alya, but even a miracle couldn't save them. She would turn.

Marinette was being eaten alive. Adrien had turned. Alya was currently turning. His friends were dead. He was in a horde of all kinds of zombies.

Adrien–or at least what he had become–lunged at Nino, snarling and reaching his arms out to scratch him.

Nino fell onto his back, now less capable of defending himself against the horde.

He saw Alya stab both Adrien and Marinette in the heads to kill their zombie forms. Alya was turning green around the area of the bite, but she stabbed herself too and crumpled to the ground.

Nino stopped resisting and stabbed himself in the forehead to prevent himself from becoming undead.

The four friends could hopefully be together again in death.
