Hours after hours passed when Nina's little incident happened. Doctor Mike has not come in to update any of Paul's family. The last statement of his stability was last given when Candice and Nina had spoken about the situation.
As everyone sat around lazily in the waiting room, the familiar doctor had come into sight, he looked as if he's been working non stop hours. His eyes were heavy and the bright hazel color became a dull dark brown, there was no question that he had been working on patient after patient all day and night. He was soon surrounded with everyone hovering over him, seeking any new information that he must have discovered. Annoyed and exhausted he set his clipboard down, hoping they understand the message.
"I don't mean to come off rude, but I'm going to need to speak to Paul's immediate family" Doctor Mike addressed, the rest of the cast slowly backed away from the stressed doctor and sat down on their seats. Zach having been tapping his foot vigorously, while Mat was picking at his nails. Nervous for any news that is soon yet to come.
Paul's parents, who you can also seen have been lacking sleep and his sisters who show nothing but restrained in their eyes because of obvious reasons. His young nephew Max, who's grown to love and adore the green eyed man had a confused expression on his face.
As Doctor Mike spoke in private with Paul's relatives, Nina intently watched the interaction, she observed each of the family members faces. Careful to not seem too suspicious about scanning over the group ahead of her. She too has been stressed, she has not once stepped foot out this hospital. Paul's mother, Agnieszka had practically dragged Nina to go get some real sleep.
But what is sleep when the one you love is in such a weak and vulnerable state? Nina only wanted to see him once, and when she did the only thing she saw was him lying there. Seeing ultimately unharmed.
Deep in her own train of thought, she was disturbed by Mat who had gently nudged her on the arm to pay attention to Thomas, who happens to be the green eyed man's father.
The older man shared the same emerald eyes such as his son's. The soft and gentle look that radiated from his orbs onto others reminded her of the same one Paul shared. The both had very similar characteristics. The humbleness and kindness that Thomas has was passed down to his only son.
"Now I know all of us have been very impatient with what's happened with Paul's recent injury. We've all been well, living off of coffee as you say" Thomas chuckles lightly, trying to lighten the mood before it became grudged. "Anyways, that young doctor told us that Paul will be needing surgery, the results came back that his ribcage has minor infractions. One can only be too sure. Uh... he also informed us that his appendix has inflated so they will get right on the procedure as soon as possible." Thomas finished off, earning an encouraging shoulder rub from his wife who's been standing alongside of him the entire time.
"Oh and uh.. also, he's awaken. Which is fantastic news... and as far as I know it's the only good news eh'?" Thomas announced, causing everyone to sigh in relief and giving off smiles that have been absent since Paul's check in.
"Wait, are we allowed to see him yet?" Ian asked, having been told the incident just the day before.
"I believe so, he's in a stable condition as far as Dr.Mike has told us. But we are gonna go ahead and see him first if you guys don't
mind." Thomas inquired."No, of course. Do what you need to do sir, family is always first" Ian said, his light blue eyes gazing sympathetically into Thomas's green orbs.
"Who says you aren't family as well? He considers all of you family." The older man responds back, as they all went to locate the hospital room.
When they found it, there laid Paul. Seemingly more pale then usual and his eyes tired from the doses of medicine they've been giving him to prepare for his surgery in a couple of hours.
"Glad to see you're awake" Paul's sister Leah commented, a smile growing on her face as she approached near Paul, sitting down on a chair near the bed.
"You know even with that two day coma, I still feel awfully tired" He said matter of factly.
"Well given that you've been living off of I.V's, it's a inevitable thing to feel that way." Thomas explained, lightly tapping on the I.V bag that was loosely hanging on the stand.
"Good point" Paul says as he straights himself up on the bed, a slight struggle within his tone.
"Doesn't he always have one?" Leah commented, earning a gentle smile from her oldest sibling.
"Now that I can definitely argue on." Agnieszka said, playfully giving a stern look to her husband.
They all explained to Paul of further steps, as so did the green eyed man began to tell his family what happened in the incident. As they continued on their little discussion, a very familiar voice caused everyone to whip their heads directly at the door.
A woman who seemed to be in her mid 40s leaned casually against the door frame, her arms crossed and head tilted slightly as if she was resting it on her shoulder. Her straight long brown hair cascaded down to her back.
She seemed intimidating, the sly smirk that she had planted on her face gave it away. She wore a black tight turtleneck, of which had matching jeans and black long boots to complete the outfit. Sharing the same eyes as Paul, but were a little bit of a darker shade, not that it was important.
"Hey little bro, see you got uh.. quite a situation there." She said, unfolding her arms as everyone eyes her contently, shock expressions appearing on all their faces.
"I've been in a lot worse, speaking of which, one is you going M.I.A for a few months" Paul responded back, sarcasm apparent in his tone.
"Well what can I say? Work has taken time away from me, you should know this bro, you work countless hours."
"Can't argue with you on that. A call would have been nice eh'?" Paul smiles, the tension in the room closing in.
"A surprise visit is even better, now isn't it? So what's with all these tubes stuck on ya'? Getting into some fights again just like your teen years."
"Actually no, he was involved in a car accident. Not that you seem to care enough, you don't even call to see if we're alive and not living on the streets." Thomas had commented after a few brief silent moments.
"Papa please not-" Paul said.
"No Paul, she has not contacted any of us in months. Too busy with her line of work to even pick up a phone and say hello. Zapomnieć o nas, prawidlowy?" Thomas again stated, speaking his native language, indicating he is upset with the unannounced presence of his eldest daughter while his wife again rubbed his back supportingly.
"Przepraszam papa. I did not mean to upset you anymore then you were when I left. But you're all ready setting a fuel to the fire, and I can't have that." Monika said.
"Paul, I have the same cell. Call me when you're discharged, maybe we can go out for some coffee after you're released as for the meantime, I need to go."
After the intense air that closed in the room, when Monika left it felt as if all the pressure that was locked into that space was free after she excused herself from the room. And as he sat there, Paul began to realize that he will never understand the love hate relationship Monika and Thomas had. How it was always some kind of feud for as long as he can remember, despite their differences he knew that both his sister and father were two good people who just haven't found that steadiness. All though it should had been found years before, maybe it took both of them time to find and adjust to them.
