Occasionally, time stops. Not in the reality of the world, but our minds manipulate us in believing it truly has stopped.

Just as a heartbeat does.

Walking inside the hospital to where Zach had hurried Nina to get to. She did not know what she was expecting, nor was prepared with whatever news he had in store for her.

All she knew was that her time stopped. Her nervousness had overwhelmed her to the point where the clock she was so dependent on, just broke. Her grip on the steering wheel tighten as she approached closer towards the large building. The palms of her hands were moist, and her heartbeat quickened by each given second.

By the time she had gotten inside, everyone else from the cast had been there. Including a familiar older couple, who seemed to have been up all night. The woman looked like she cried throughout the entire day, while the man kept strong but the look within his eyes said otherwise.

"Nina..." Kat says, embracing Nina in a warm hug, which she had reciprocated back. When they pulled away, the usual cheery mood of Kat had abruptly been replaced with a more serious version of the swiss woman. A version Nina hasn't ever expected to see in quite a while.

One by one, each greeted Nina with sympathy. Saying calm words and sweet nothing as they exchanged hugs.

Her anxiety started to get the best of herself, as she soon realized that these weren't only greeting. But to prepare her for the news that they will soon tell her once everyone has properly addressed her presence.

As they all settle in the waiting area, no one has yet explained why everyone is there, which had the brunette vaguely confused.

"So are you gonna tell me what's going on here? Or should I figure it myself?" She spoke up, as Candice jumps in surprise from Nina's sudden words.

The blonde turns around, irritation of Nina's surprise attack on her. "God! Nina, don't do that.. I almost had a heart attack." Candice shouts, as she rubs her forehead lightly and turns back to the vending machine, deciding in what she wanted to buy.

"Don't avoid my question Candice."

"What question? I didn't hear you, I was to busy panicking about someone who decided to scare me." Candice adds back, as she puts in the necessary change within the machine and searches for the code of the item she wants.

Obviously irritated, Nina spins Candice back around facing her, earning a gasp from the blonde. "I don't have time for jokes C, what's going on? Why's everyone here?" The brunette questions, crossing her arms defensively as she waits for a response.

"I-I-I.... can't tell you  ju-just yet, we all agreed to do it to-together or once...." Candice pauses, looking down to avoid Nina's gaze and playing with her fingers carelessly. Nina places her hand on the blonde's shoulder, encouraging her to go on. "Until the doctor gives us any news." She sighs, soon feelings the weights be lifted off.

"Who's this about C? That's all I wanna know."

"Nina, it's- " Candice was soon interrupted by a deep voice that perhaps belonged to the doctor.

"I'm sorry to interrupt but we just received the results of-" The doctor pauses as he meets eyes with Nina, recognizing the familiar chocolate orbs

"Well, I must say Ms. Dobrev. I wasn't expecting our next run in at the hospital again." Doctor Mike says. "How's the hand? Has it healed completely yet?" He asked, concern in his voice.

"Uh... yea-yeah. It- um, yes it's- it's healed all ready. Thank you again for... you know helping out." Nina thanked, as she pointed to the direction of her once injured hand.

"What are doctors for? I mean, you don't think I became one just for the money? Or so I hope you don't." He teased

"N-no of course not, that's not wha-what I... what I meant. Just that, thank you." Nina says, obviously flustered with the doctor's presence.

"I know what you meant" the dark brown haired man smiled. "So, shall we discuss the recent report or do you want me to come back? Seeing that you guys are uh- busy at the moment."

"Yeah that's bes-"

"No, it's fine. What's the news?". Nina says, uncrossing her arms and placing her hands in her back pockets.

"Okay, well Mr.Wesley hasn't woken up yet since after surgery. My nurses confirmed to me that it's the heavy medication we dosed for him to stay asleep during the operation. All though I do have to inform you that he's been in a 72 hour coma and that we possibly might have to take further steps with scanning the brain to see if any infractions have occurred due to the crash. In the meantime, I suggest Mr. Wesley's visitors should go home and rest, he seems to be having normal blood flow and no files of brain damage have been guaranteed so far. Giving that there should be nothing to worry about, it is maybe just the heavy dose of inhalation anaesthetic-."

"W-wait, do you mean Paul Wesley" Nina asked, her weight becoming heavy as her knees became weak. She didn't even realize the tears that were threatening to spill due the overwhelming information thats being given to her. The last thing she saw was the doctor nodding his head in agreement to her statement.

That was enough to make Nina's time stop, to make her vision blurry. To make her actions do first rather then her mind thinking about it.
She was drunk, but not the kind where the alcohol was the source, or the painful headache that would have been endured the next day. Her drunk was because of the specific someone who now lies vulnerable on a hospital bed. Unable to have a say in whatever the plan was.

She ran, but not out the exit of the fairly large building. The brunette ran straight to the rooms of the patients, hoping to come across to the green eyed man's room.

Nothing made sense, everything was blacked out. The only thing that was seen were the very few nurses who glared at her. She felt the grip of a muscular man on her arm, in attempt to pull her back before causing anymore ruckus. But she pulled away and headed towards the next floor above.

The tears. They weren't being fought anymore.
The emotions. They weren't piling on no longer. As the reality of time passed by milliseconds, the clock that she had relied on for so long was stuck.

It's surprising, isn't it? That no drug nor alcohol can consume you more then the love someone carries for another. Because of love, this rollercoaster that we call our emotions are constantly digging us in deeper and deeper. Without our consent. Perhaps it's the blindness of it, or the hazard toxic that we enjoy so very much. How it leaves a greater and a more long-lasting effect then any other kind of antidote.

At that very moment, as Nina's legs were giving up and her heart was getting heavier and heavier by each passing second. While her mind and body had stopped collaborating together.

In that moment, she had confirmed to herself that she was in love with Paul Wesley.

That she always had been, but it took this amount of damage for her to actually realize it.

Paul was Nina's drug, the effects he had created on her. The control of emotions that she had allowed for him to toy with. The countless nights he had her thinking of the what ifs? How rest was not given to her if Paul was on the brunette's mind. Contemplation between confessing and hiding, yet now? It was not her secret anymore. She isn't going to deny it to her own self nor to others any longer.

Nina is and always had been in love with Paul Wesley.
