Chapter Twenty Five

Cas's POV

It had been almost three full years since Dean and I got married. We had honeymooned in a small town in florida and we had gone back home to our apartment. nothing really seemed to change except my last name, what we introduced each other as, and the rings that were never removed from our fingers. Life was good and we were happy. Last Wednesday, we got a request from an apartment neighbor, Aria, that I had spoken to a few times. She had asked me if Dean and I would be willing to babysit her five month old baby while she was away for the evening with her boyfriend. She seemed slightly desperate, and extremely hopeful, so I told her we would. She was so grateful that she shook my hand and grinned at me as if this was the best thing that had happened to her in months. Today was the day we would babysit. She left a list of numbers for emergencies, instructions on how to fix a bottle and how to properly feed a baby, a box of diapers, a few toys, and before she left she showed us where all the things we might need were. She then picked up her little baby, and handed him to me, setting his small form into my arms. I didn't know why, but my heart was beating rapidly. "His name is Joey." She said, smiling. "Good luck boys, call if you need anything." She left, glancing back at Joey once more. Dean was smiling at the tiny figure in my arms. I slowly began to relax, and smiled down at the small boy. As soon as I did that, he opened big blue eyes and smiled up at me. I swear, my heart sped right back up. Dean slid an arm around my waist, smiling at me, then at Joey. "He's a pretty cute kid." Dean said, watching him blink up at me. He held his hand over the baby, and he reached up, small fists grasping at Dean's fingers. Dean smiled and the baby giggled, his little voice so cute. Dean slowly pulled his hand away, smiling. Then the baby began to cry. My eyes went wide and I looked at Dean. He offered his hand back to the baby, but he didn't want it. Dean immediately went to work, scooping the baby from my arms and laying him against his shoulder. He patted and rubbed his back, heading to where we had been shown the bottle supplies. He held Joey against his shoukder with one hand, using the other to prepare a bottle for him. I marveled at it, not quite sure where Dean had learned all this. He finished making the bottle, the gestured for me to come over. I did, and he laid Joey, still crying, into my arms. He positioned him so my arm held up his head, then handed me the bottle. With one arm supporting his body, I used the other hand to gently press the rubber part of the bottle against his lips. He happily began drinking the bottle, cries dying out. I smiled and gently rocked him in my arms, watching as the level of formula in the bottle began to drop. Dean smiled at me and Joey, the looked down at just Joey. "That was really impressive Dean, how did you know all that?" Dean smiled and chuckled. "Well I basically raised Sammy myself." He said. "So I had to know how to change diapers and make bottles and burp a baby and all that good stuff. Once you learn it, it kinda sticks." Joey finished his bottle, so Dean burped him and laid him in his crib. He walked back over to me and kissed my cheek, sliding his arm back around my waist. He took a deep breath, then looked over at ne and started talking. "Hey Cas?" He asked. "You ever think about maybe... I dunno... A family?" I kind of froze, then took a deep breath, looking up at him. My heart was jackhammering, and my face was deadly serious as I whispered the words; "All the time Dean." He smiled. "We should do it. We should adopt a kid." I felt my lips twitch into a smile. "That would be amazing..." I said, beaming widely at him. "Alright, it's settled. Tomorrow, we go to the adoption agency and see if we're eligible to adopt." He was grinning at me, and I grinned back, "that sounds like a good plan Dean, let's do it."
