Chapter 51"An unexpected surprise"

Life had resumed its course. Terry was still thinking about Candy and Esther, but he continued his internship at St. Joan's hospital, that was necessary for his diploma.

One fine day, in the emergency room they brought a patient who was victim of an accident. She was hurt on her head. They took care of her and they gave her a room. She had no identifications on her, thus medical insurance, which mean that they gave her the first care and then thy put her in a room. Despite the bandage on her head, Terry recognize her right away.

- Billie! Oh my God!

She was still unconscious. He looked at her chart and he saw that they did do all the test to her, because she had no identification and no medical insurance. He ordered the missing tests for Billie. The chief of staff, Dr. Leonard, came to speak to him.

- This person has no identification and no insurance, Dr. Andrew

- I'm taking in charge all the fees, take good care of her and put everything on my account.

- All right, said Dr. Leonard.

They did all the necessary tests to Billie to make sure she wasn't suffering from anything serious. Terry came to see her but she was still unconscious. She regained consciousness around the end of the day. The interns were surrounding her.

- Hello, do you know your name? Asked an intern

She looked at them, without knowing them, which was normal, since they were strangers for her, but her name, what was her name again?

- I ... I don't know... I forgot... where am I? What am I doing here? I don't know who I am... Oh my God! I'm lost... it's the black hole! I can't remember anything!!!

- Calm down, said an intern, calm down!

But Billie continue agitating herself, screaming, she was panicking.

- Page Dr. Andrew, said an intern to a nurse.

- All right...

Terry was in the rec room on the verge of changing to leave, when he got the page. He rushed to Billie's room, at once.

- Billie, Billie, calm down

She stopped and looked at him.

- You know me? She said in tears, who am I?

- Your name is Billie, said Terry softly.

- Billie, Billie who?

Terry looked at her , she looked so desperate, he wanted to reassure her.

- Billie Andrew, you're my big sister, said Terry.

All the interns and the nurses looked at him surprised. What was he talking about? She was his sister? Why was he lying to a patient?

Billie looked at him and she saw the affection he had for her, she felt his love for her. Terry approached her and he took her in his arms and she burst into tears. The others got out to give them some intimacy.

- Come on Billie, what's going on?

- I don't remember anything, it's the black hole, I don't know anybody.

- You know me, don't you? My name is Terrence Andrew and like I told you, I'm your brother...

- So my name is Billie Andrew?

- Yes, since your my sister, said Terry

Terry had as a matter of fact, change the name on her chart to Billie Andrew, for all the additional test he had done on her.

- Tell me, how am I...

- You are nice, you're generous with you time, you like animals. You worked at the Blue River Zoo in London in England. And when I was in England, I often went to see you at the zoo... But you have to rest now, you have a bad wound on your head and you got a blow that made you lose your memory and it's going to come back to you, you'll see and everything will be fine... I'm goin got bring you home with me. You'll be able to rest, I have a maid who's going to take care of the meals...

Billie was back lying down, listening to Terry, smiling. He was her little brother? And he wanted to be a doctor? He was going a good job.

- Billie, is short for what name?

- Whilemina, said Terry instinctively, Whilemina Andrew...

Dr. Leonard arrived at that moment and he said:

- So we have the great Whilemina Andre among our patients? I'm happy to make your acquaintance, Miss Andrew, your philanthropic work around the world are legendary... and your donations to this hospital are prestigious...

- I'm pleased to meet you, Dr. ....

- Leonard, Marc Leonard, at your service...

- Thank you Dr. Leonard, she said smiling, for the moment, I have a blank in my memory.

- Yes, thank God Dr. Andrew recognized you and took in charges your medical bill; you had the best of care. He's the best intern and he's going to be a great doctor! You should be proud about him!

- It was in my plans to start one as soon as I finish my internship, in whatever hospital , I would've ended up, said Terry.

Terry looked at her surprised and Dr. Leonard replied smiling:

- Whilemina Andrew, you're very funny, you know that?

"Whilemina Andrew"? But wasn't he pretending she was his sister? Whilemina Andrew? He heard Candy's voice in college.

" The all powerful Whilemina Maximilliana Andrew? She probably threatened to call the press and the SPCA..."

No! Could it be possible? He looked a Billie, she has lost her memory...

Dr. Leonard was flirting with Billie!

- Billie, I'm going to go change, I have to go back, but I'll come and see you first, ok?

- All right Terrence, she said smiling.

- Dr. Leornard...

This last one did a head sign to Terry and he got out. He got out of the hospital and he took his cellphone and he called Georgina on her personal line.

- Is Billie my mother? He asked as soon as her picked up

Georgina was so surprise, she was speechless for a moment.

- Well hello to you too, Terry, I'm fine thank you, how are you?

- Hi Georgina, I'm sorry, but I'm upset by my finding.

- What finding?

- Billie was brought in to the hospital with a wound on her head...

- Oh my God! How is she?

- She's fine, only she had on identification on her, so the hospital didn't want to spend money on someone with no ID and no insurance, so I decided to take her in charge...

- Oh, said Georgina.

Terry hung up and he went to sit in the hospital garden. He started to think, it was Billie, who had told him to put up with the Reagans and take advantage of the opportunity that was given to him and who had adopted him and allowed him to become a meme of the Andrew Family where Antoniam, Ashley and Allyson loved him, even the old hag had fallen for him, He thought about his high school graduation, when he was regretting that his mother didn't show up, but she was there and she had come to see him get his diploma! But why was she hiding? He went to change and went to the room and he met Georgina in the hallway.

They found Billie sitting on the bed and smiling to Dr. Leonard who was still there.

He took her in his arms and hugged her hard. Billie, a little disoriented, hugged him back. She was as moved as Terry.

Georgina got out of the room and to call the rest of the family. Half an hour later, the great aunt arrived, followed by Sarah, her children, her husband, Ashley and Allyson. The whole family was glad to see that their great aunt was back. Without her memory, everybody was telling her stories, about their lives.

Dr. Leonard also came to visit Billie, he had taken over her case and he was making home visits at the manor. She had managed to convince him to open a free clinic, for the needy, that she was going to personally finance.

Jones finished school and went to work with his father in his company and he was coaching him. Neil went to work for his father's company too, He might have been a bad boy when the was younger, but he was working well at the university and with his father.

Ashley and Eliza became lawyers, They were working for the family company, but they were also on the list of pro bono lawyers to help those who couldn't afford expensive lawyer.

Allyson was an engineer in the family company. Patrick came to see her in Chicago and he had accepted a position as an English teacher in a local high school to be near his friends.

Terry had finished his internship and he was working at St. Joan and he got specialized in general surgery. He was working at the free clinic on his free time.

Dr. Leonard was still dating Billie. She had recovered her memoy and he was going with her at charity galas and receptions. She felt obligated to take care of the family business to the great joy of the great aunt who was getting old.

Georgina had also found a man she was with for a while.

Princess Candy wasn't with her husband anymore, prince Andrea. They had remained friends. Princess Candy had decided to continue her career as an actress. She had received a lot of offers after her movie on Grace Kelly, but she since she was married, she had declined. She liked the theatre a lot and she looked for a job in a troupe and she finally got one with the Stratford troupe. When she lived in London, she took some acting classes, when her husband was on a trip, she had done a few plays for charity, so she had more experience in the theatre. Her audition with the Stratford troupe went very well.

The actor who auditioned with her was called Marlowe Susann. Candy was a little surprised by his family name, not very common.

- Marlowe Susann?

- Yes, like Jacqueline Susann...

- Are you from the same family?

- She probably a distant cousin, I don't know, he said laughing.

- Ok, said Candy laughing.

- Your British accent is perfect for Shakespeare's tongue.

- I hope that my British accent is not the only thing that interest the troupe...

Robert Hathaway, the manager of the troupe arrived on stage.

- We're looking for a young actress to play the role of Cordelia, in King Lear.

- The rehearsals are starting in a week.

- I will be ready, said Candy with conviction.

- I can help you with your lines, I'm the king of France...

- We could rehearse when I come here at the theatre.

- What about at your place?

- My mother doesn't really like having people at her place because of my little sister...

- Oh, ok...

- Thank you for your offer.

A new life was starting for Candy, a new dream life. She was thinking about Terry, she had to contact him, but she wanted to make a name for herself first, she will contact Terry after her first role...She was talking to her mother.

- I'm surprised you're not contacting Terry...

- We didn't part in good terms because of daddy

- He doesn't control your like anymore. He now all powerful, he goes lots of high place relations...

- I know I'm free, but Terry is angry at me for leaving without saying goodbye

- But it was because of your father... you didn't tell him that.

- When he called me after your surgery, he was cold and dry... I'm going to work at the theatre, make my dream come true, then I'll have the courage to confront him...

- As you wish... what's your first play?

- King Lear...

- Congratulations.

- Thank you mum. Where's Esther?

- She went to play with the neighbor's little girl.

- Ok, I'm going to study my role...

Candy studied her role seriousy, but she always had time for little Esther. Her mother helped her study her lines and she gave her advice on how to play some scenes.

The rehearsals were intense and the publicity on the play also. The press were interested by Candice Grandchester, daughter of Eleonor Baker and a very talented actress. There were a lot of articles written about her. Because everything thought she had a special treatment, she had to work doubly to show that she had talent.

Marlowe Susann, was following her everywhere and always defended her when the other actors would sulk... Robert Hathawy was happy to have Candy in his troupe, who doing a very good job.

In Chicago, the papers were also talking about the former princess turned actress who was going to come to Chicago soon with her troupe.
Terry fell on the article by chance at his work by reading an abandoned paper on a table in the lunch room.

"Oh Candy, now that you're free again. Are we going to find a way to get back together? " He asked himself.
