It was Saturday evening. Most students who lived in England, went home for the week end. Terry and his cousins were in his room.
- So Terry, you want to go the cinema? Said Ashley.
- Cinema? Said Terry, don't tell me you're starting to talk like the British?
- What and give up my pretty American accent? Said Ashley.
- The British would tell you that the American accent is dreadful! Said Allyson imitating the British accent.
- Well I love our accent, said Terry and I have no intention of changing it!
- Me too, said Ashley.
- Me three, said Allyson.
They all burst out laughing. Jones entered the room at that time.
- Oh sorry, I didn't know you had company, he said looking at Ashley.
- It's ok, said Allyson, we were asking Terry if he wanted to go the cinema!
- Cinema.., said Jones.
- And he still hasn't answered, by the way, said Allyson.
Terry looked at them.
- Well guys, I can't..., he said.
- Why? Said Ashley.
- I've got a date...
- What? Said Ashley, a date? With whom? "Lady is a tramp Candy"? Is that what you and her were talking about last night in her dark room??
- Ashley! Said Allyson.
Terry shook his head. When is Ashley's jealousy going to go away?
- You think I didn't recognize your face? You had the face you had after making out with Nina or Antonia! Said Ashley.
- Ashley! That's enough! Whom Terry kisses, is not our problem! Said Allyson.
- I don't see you denying it, you kissed the little tramp didn't you? Continued Ashley.
- Ashley, said Terry calmly, we are not having this conversation! Now, I need to get ready, I've got a date...
- Sure Terry, I'm sorry about this, said Allyson
- Don't apologise for me! Said Ashley leaving the room.
Allyson followed her sister. Jones was shaking his head.
- She's never going to get over you, he said.
- Yes, she will eventually.
- Maybe I should start dating other girls.
- Maybe you should, said Terry, there is only one life to live...this is it.
- I love Ashley, she's so feisty...even as she was making a jealousy scene for you, I couldn't help loving her...
- Then you go after her, or you don't! Make a decision; go after the girl you love, or you move on!
- She won't even speak to me... anyway... you're going out with Candy?
- Nope...
- Nope? With who then?
- Penelope Fowler....
- What? Lady Penelope? How do you get all the ladies after you?
- You know her?
- I've heard about her...
- Start talking...
- Well, she and Lady Candy are sworn enemies... they go after the same guys and Lady Candy always wins...
- So you think she invited me to piss Candy off??
- Sure does look like it!
- Great! That's all I needed, another reason for Candy to hate me!
- Did you kiss her last night?
- Yes...
- Oh...are you two going out?
- Well I kind of ruined it at the end and apologise for kissing her...
- You what? I can't believe you! When you're suppose to apologise, you're practically calling her a tramp... and now you make out with her and you apologise...?
- I couldn't get Antonia out of my mind, I felt guilty for loving the kiss... I know I have to move on and it's happening... I'm having dreams about Candy now, instead of Antonia...
- That's great! Go out with her!
- She's... a lady!
- Unless there's something I don't know, I think that's your kind of partner...
- I can't get her out of my head and kissing her again...oh my God! I wanted to make love to her right there and then! I was stunned by the violence of my feelings for her... Oh Jones! I'm losing my mind with this girl!
- So you're going out with Penelope Fowler, her sworn enemy?
- I didn't know about their situations... and I agreed to go out with Penelope... I was... trying to get Candy out of my mind...
- Right! So what are you going to tell Candy?
- Nothing...
- You have to tell her something...you kissed her... twice....
- So?
- Well, since you're enjoying kissing her and you're sexual desire for her is so intense... I'd say, she's...
- Not my girlfriend!
- ...almost your girlfriend?
- No...
- What if I go after Lady Candy...?
- Don't even think about it!
- You see? Possessive! She's your girlfriend...
- No... but...
- Just talk to her... and make things clear between you...that is if you want her... or you can do nothing and sit back and watch the girl you love date other guys...
- Jones, I have a date, I don't have the time to think about that.
Terry was putting his clothes on while he was talking to his friend.
- You look like a prince tonight, where are you going?
- Covent Garden...
- The opera? Snooze...
- I intend to, said Terry smiling.
- Maybe you'll enjoy it, you might be surprised.
- Maybe... but I doubt it...
- Well, have a nice evening... I'm going to go to the telly room and maybe sympathized with some nice girl...
- Good luck! Said Terry.
- Have a good time with Lady Penelope... maybe you'll get lucky...
- Don't say that!
- Dude most guys would be happy to have a girl so willing...
- Well for the moment I only want one girl, and I can't have her...
Terry finished getting ready, put on some cologne and he went out to the Rolls Royce which was waiting for him. Then he arrived at the Fowler's. Their house was a castle very impressive. Terry got out of the car and was guided by a butler to a sitting room.
- Please have a seat, sir, Lady Penelope is going to be down in a moment, and would you care for something to drink while you wait?
- No thank you, said Terry, I'm fine.
Terry was looking around at all the luxury around him. Never, in a million years, had he thought, while he was growing up an orphan at the Pony Home, he would've thought about seeing, let alone go out with those rich high society girls, if he had dreamt of seeing some American rich girl, he would've never thought he had a chance with girls from the English upper class, living in castles.
Lady Penelope came down, wearing a beautiful black dress, her hair held in a bun. She was smiling, she was very pretty.
- Terry! She said, how are you?
- I'm fine, said Terry smiling.
- Sorry I kept you waiting, you want something to drink?
- No, I'm fine Penelope...
- Shall we go then, she said taking a cape.
- Where's your grandmother?
- She already left without me, giving how long it takes me to get ready...
They walked together to the car an went to the Covent Garden. There were a lot of people for the premiere of "Othello". So people were talking and laughing before the play, acquaintances greeting each other.
Candy was at Covent Gardens with a nephew of her step monster's. His name was Simon McGillivray. She was with him, because her father asked her to and because, Simon, who was kind of a dandy, had always been nice to her. He had long bond hair and was kind of cute.
- You don't have to look so happy to be with me he said.
- I'm sorry, Simon, I've been in a bad mood lately...
- Only lately?
- Look I'm here as favour to my father, ok?
- What? Daddy dearest threatened to cut you off if you don't obey him?
- For your information, I have my own money! I don't need daddy's money ok? I'm not too found of operas...
- Othello...Lawrence Fishburne...
- He's the only reason I'm here... to see him in the flesh. I loved the movie... I was so glad he agreed to play on stage.
- I have to admit, I remember him from "The Matrix"...
They burst out laughing.
- Look your sworn enemy, Lady Penelope Fowler, she's got a date...
- I wonder who she bribed to come with her this time...
- Well he's kind of hunk, if you ask me...
- I'm not asking you, said Candy without looking.
- Well she's coming to say hello.
- Great! That's all I needed to make my evening worst! To see that conniving b*itch's Puck face!
Penelope was there with Terry at her arm, smiling like there was no tomorrow.
- Terrence, she said, look who's here!
Candy turned around when she heard the name "Terrence" and if she was stunned to see him there, she didn't show it.
- Candy, Simon, said Penelope, Terrence, you know Candy and that's Simon, her date.
Terry looked at Candy with that dandy. He wanted to strangle him. What was she doing with that guy? What happened to the prince Eurotrash?
