I sat in Derek's car silently looking out the window and up at the night sky captivated by the stars and the moon. There was a silence that had fallen between Derek and I, but it was a comfortable silence, actually, in a way it was really soothing. Part of me knew that I should have just gone home and got some sleep since I had school in the morning, but a lot of the reason I hadn't wanted to go home was because for some odd reason I found Derek interesting and always found myself wanting to talk to him.
“Anywhere in particular you wanna go?” I heard him ask he without taking his eyes off the road.
“I know you tend to be antisocial, so we just go to your place if you want.” I murmurer, but he seemed to be surprised by my answer.
“Of all places in Beacon Hills that I can take you, you're actually suggesting that I take you to my burnt down family home in the middle of the woods in the middle of the night?” he stated with a hint of disbelief, but when he put it that way, I could understand why that would sound odd.
“Yeah, sounds like the start of a horror movie doesn't it? Normally that would be the last place I'd wanna go at this hour of the night, but after all we've been through night, I’m honestly too tired to even care.” I said to him as he made a couple of turns
“To my place it is then.” he commented and headed towards the burnt how house I had become so accustomed to.
Before too long, a path that lead into the woods appeared and Derek turned onto the path and slowly drove deeper into the woods. I adverted my eyes from the sky and brought them down to all the trees that were slowly passing by the car. Looking out into the woods, all I could really see was blackness. It was enough to send a chill down my spine and give me the creeps, but I wasn't going to go back on what I said since we were almost there anyways. Less than a minuet later the familiar burnt down house came into view and the car was parked and shut off. I quietly got out of the seat and shut the door behind me as I followed Derek inside.
“This place looks so different at night.” I stated as I looked around and took in how everything looked with the light of the moon illuminating it.
“Wanna sit?” I heard Derek ask me as he took a seat on an old worn couch not too far from the entrance.
“Why do you stay here? This place is mostly burnt down and doesn't look comfortable. It's hardly even providing you shelter from the weather...”I questioned him as I took a seat on the couch next to him.
“It's only temporary. Once I find a decent place I'll start living there.” he answered without hesitation.
“I know Scott and Stiles would never offer, but we have an extra bedroom at my mom's place that you can use when she's not around, which isn't much anyways due to her job. At least that way you can have an actual bed to sleep on every so often.” I offered without thinking.
Why did I just offer him the spare room? I shouldn't have done that. I really, really, shouldn't have done that. What if he takes me up on that offer and ends up putting my mom and sister in danger? I thought to myself while I looked at him and the look of shock that played on his face.
“I'll be fine, but I'll keep that in mind should the need arise.” He replied. For some reason his answer brought a small smile to my face. Suddenly, I saw Derek's head jerk to the side.
“Is something wrong?” I inquired at his sudden movement, but the look in his eyes said it all.
“I heard something. Stay right here while I go check outside.
With that, he exited the house and started to look around the property to see where the disturbances had come from. The second he left the house fear coursed throughout my body as I anxiously waited for him to return. I nervously looked around the place to make sure nobody was around, but the second I heard a growl from behind me, my body tensed up. Somehow I already knew that it wasn't Derek but I turned around anyways. There at the top of the stairs was the alpha that had chased us all through the school that night.
Scared that it was going to kill me, I jerked around and started to run out the door but it was faster than me and had easily over taken me. Now on the floor, I scrambled to get up, but it did no good because in matter of only seconds the alpha was hovering over me. It brought a claw up to my face and slowly traced downwards toward my chin before I had finally muster up enough strength to let out a blood curdling scream that sent Derek storming into the room in wolf form. I watched as Derek took a few swings at the Alpha, but once it threw him into the wall it took off into the woods while Derek gathered his bearings and stood up.
“Are you okay?” he questioned me still in wolf form, but all I could do was meekly nod my head and pick myself off of the floor.
“I...it...” I tried to say, but I was too shaken up to make complete sentences.
“It's gonna be okay Elizabeth, it's gone now.
But this time instead of answering, I felt hot tears start to rapidly cascade down my face as my vision became blurred. It took all the strength I had left in me not to just collapse to the floor and break down. This was the second time that I had come within reaching distance of that creature, but this time it was close enough that it could have easily killed me if Derek had come in and interfered. Derek seemed unsure of what to do with my crying self, so without any thought I ran over to him and buried my face into his chest as my hands gripped his shirt. Hesitantly, I felt him place his arms around me as his claws disappeared. We stood there in the middle of the room like that for a couple of minuets before he led me over to the couch and sat me down and then faced me.
“I am...so sorry that you had to go through that...” I listened to him apologize to me.
“I..It's fine. It's not like it's y...your fault anyways.” I replied to him. I'm not sure how much longer I stayed with him that night, but I know that at one point my thoughts drifted away as I leaned on Derek and let sleep take over.
