It was finally Friday and I couldn't have been more ready for the weekend. After the way the week had been going so far and with all the people showing up dead, I think it was about time I got to relax and have a little time to myself without my sister or friends budding in. Thankfully Stiles and Scott hadn't pestered me about the whole incident of me skipping school to go and confront Derek because if they had, I'm not really sure what I would have told them. Hell, I'm still trying to figure out what exactly was going through my mind myself. The only thing I was really sure on was the fact that Scott and Stiles were up to something and my guess was that Derek was involved some how, but who was going to believe me?
Due to the fact that I knew neither of the boys were going to give me a straight answer, I figured that I'd take this time to re-try visiting Derek again. I had chosen today to do this because I knew with it being Friday that Scott, Stiles, Allison, and the rest of my friends would probably already have plans and not think much about my activities. My guess was that Scott and Allison were probably going to go on a date while Stiles go into trouble at his place and Lydia was probably gonna try to drag Jackson into something. The only person left was my sister but knowing her, she would probably get wind of some party and try to convince Stiles to go with her.
I had just gotten done taking a shower and getting dressed when I heard my phone go off and indicate that I had a text message waiting for me. I quickly walked across my room and grabbed my phone off of my bed before opening it up and seeing that Allison had texted me.
Hey, wanna hang out with me and Lydia for a bit? I won't be going out with Scott until around six tonight – Allison
I bit my lip as I mentally debated with myself over if I should visit her for just a little bit. At first I thought it might be a good idea, but then I remembered how Lydia could be and decided it would be easier if I stayed away for today.
Wish I could. I feel really cruddy and after the week I just had, I think I'm just gonna stay in bed and relax. I quickly replied back to her. I wasn't completely lying to her...I did feel kind of cruddy, I just didn't plan on staying in bed.
Aw. I hope you feel better soon. You deserve to relax. I'll feel you in on my date later. - Allison I read her response as I walked down stairs only to be greeted by my mom and sister.
“You two got any plans for today?” she asked us casually as she sat down on the couch.
“I was hoping you'd let me stay over at Marci's tonight?” my sister asked innocently.
“Fine, but only if you stay out of trouble.” My mom joked with her. I was happy that my mom had given her permission because it meant that I could come and go without having to worry about someone opening their mouth and ratting me out.
“What about you Beth?” I heard her question me as she turned her attention onto me. I had to come up with something believeable.
“Well, I'm gonna go hang out with Allison and Lydia and we'll probably meet up with Scott and Stiles...possible Jackson as well. You know, the usual.” I responded with a small smile hoping she believed me. “Speaking of which, If I don't get going soon I'm gonna be late meeting up with them. Bye!” I added on as I exited the house. Not wanting to raise suspicion, I decided to walk to his place this time instead of parking my car on the side of the road and alerting people. As I came along the the woods my heart started to raise.
I can't believe I'm actually going to do this. What the hell is wrong with me?! I thought as I took my first few steps into the woods.
Everything seemed quiet and calm which only made me more nervous. I slowly walked along as I pushed a few tree branches out of my way until I had finally made it back to the burnt down Hale house. I stood their quickly staring at it as I debated my next move. Deciding that it was either now or never, I walked up to the entrance and pushed through the door.
“Derek! I...I know you're here...” I said uneasily as my confidence quickly disappeared. I was really starting to reconsider this.
“Why are you here again? I just can't seem to get rid of you seeing as how you obviously don't understand the meaning of private property ” I heard him state as he appeared at the top of the stair case.
“You know, you can just drop the attitude okay? I'm only here to ask you some questions.” I shot back at him. I was trying my best not to go off on him.
“What are you, a journalist or something?” he asked me while he walked down the staircase and then crossed his arms as he stood a small distance away from me.
“What the hell is your problem?!” I said angerly. He wasn't going to be an easy person to talk to.
“What's my problem? I'm not the one trespassing on someone else's property.” he replied with a smart ass tone. Oh, he was really trying me.
“You know what, I'm just going to ignore your comment and do what I came here to do.” I said with an attitude before going on. “I wanna know what the hell you've got Scott and Stiles involved in because they're acting strange all the time and constantly lying as if they're trying cover something up and you seem to be the one thing that both my friends have in common.” I continued on.
I stared at Derek as I studied his posture. His jaw seemed to tighten after I mentioned that he was the common fact in whatever my friends were hiding. A small smile of triumph played on my lips.
“I don't even know what you're talking about...Beth was it?” he stated as if it was nothing, but I wasn't letting him off that easily.
“It's Elizabeth to you, and you don't seriously think I'm that stupid do you? It's so obvious that you're lying...I can tell by your body language.” I stated bluntly while crossing my arms.
“Okay, Elizabeth, you're just gonna have to trust me when I say that some things are better off unknown.” he replied casually.
“Oh please. Don't try to feed me that bullshit.” I pressed on. Derek was my only hope of getting answers.
“Seriously, you don't wanna know because the second you do, you're only putting yourself in danger. Now please leave.” He started to explain to me. For once he didn't have an attitude with me.
“You know, telling me that it's dangerous only makes me wanna figure out what's going on that much more because whatever it is, they're my friends and I wanna help them.” I stated as I let my arms fall to my side.
It scared me to hear Derek tell me that I'd be putting myself In danger by knowing what was going on. If it was so dangerous for me know, then it must have been even more dangerous for my friends. Part of me wanted to press Derek for more answers, but it was obvious that he wasn't going to say anything.
“Please just drop this. We don't need any more people involved.” he pleaded with me. I let out a sigh and looked back at him.
“I guess I'm just gonna go, but know this, you're gonna be seeing a lot more of me until either you, Scott, or Stiles comes clean.” I replied and started to walk away but I heard him speak up once more.
“Just remember Elizabeth, curiosity killed the cat.” he stated. I wasn't about to let him have the last word.
“Maybe, but didn't the cat have nine lives?” I retorted and then left his place
Once I was far enough away from his house I took my cell phone out and looked at the time. It was currently 3 p.m....I had spent about an hour arguing with Derek trying to get answers. I let out a puff of air out of aggravation. While she walked home she thought about the “threat” she had made to Derek. “you're gonna be seeing a lot more of me until either you, Scott, or Stiles comes clean.” Would I be able to keep that threat? Better yet, would it actually work and make him tell me what was going on?
