Prologue

It's funny how from day to day things hardly seem to change, but when you look back on it all everything is different. Things that seemed minor at the time begin to take on a bigger meaning and the words and actions of the people around you start to add up and tell a whole different story that you originally thought. This is what happened to me and my family. My family seemed to that picture perfect family that was always happy and got along and did things together as a family, but one day I woke up and my dad had up and left us for seemingly no reason, or so I thought.

Apparently in the last couple of weeks leading up to my dad's moving away, him and my mother hadn't been getting along, in fact the more I think about it, the more I realize that they really hadn't been happy with each other for some time. Either way, once he left, it was just me, my mom, and my younger sister Abby. Things weren't easy at first. My dad would always try to make me and my sister visit him on weekends, but being (then) seventeen and stubborn made it to where he finally gave up on the notion and decided to let me visit when and if I decided to.

It's been a year since he left. A whole year of court battles and a custody battle over Abby since she's fourteen. Due to the fact that I was turning eighteen, my dad didn't even bother to try to get custody of me. In the end, my mom had won though. After fighting a nasty divorce for a year, my mom finally decided that we needed to get away and have a new start. My mom told us of where she grew up as a kid and decided that was where we were gonna move to. That's how we ended up in Beacon Hills and how I, Elizabeth Winston, ended up getting into the middle of a whirlwind of events that I would have never thought possible.
