Chapter 8

"It's that time."

"Is it that time?"

"Yes, it's time to play..." I pressed the button for the audio intro to Dan vs Phil.

"So on the Radio 1 Facebook page you'll see a poll emerging. It has the two options for this week's Dan vs Phil. The two options for this week are: Blindfolded Easter egg hunt or Bunny obstacle course. Where we'll have these bunny suits to wear for the Easter holiday." Phil said as I laughed along. It was a hollow laugh however. How could I ever leave Phil? But I can't let him see the pictures. I shook my head, no radio time.

"Right so everyone go vote. Vote now! And while you do that, we have a caller on the line!" I announced.

"Hello?" Phil asked.

"Hi!" said an excited voice.

"What's your name?"

"Martha!" She exclaimed. We both laughed lightly at her enthusiasm.

"Ok, just making sure. So what song do you want to hear today?" Phil asked.

"I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz." She exclaimed happily.

"Alright, would you like to dedicate it to anyone?" I asked before pressing play.

"Yeah, I'd like to dedicate it to my boyfriend, our anniversary is tomorrow." Martha said.

"Aww alright, this goes out to Martha and her boyfriend." I said pressing play on the track. The guitar intro started playing while we watched the poll. I looked over at Phil who was studying the screen.

When I look into your eyes, it's like watching the night sky or a beautiful sunrise.

This song was too emotional for right now; especially with the given circumstances. Not only was it inappropriate leading into Dan vs. Phil, but for everything else... Should I just let the pictures leak? What would I tell Phil? Or the fans?

Well there's so much they hold. And just like them old stars, I see that you've come so far to be right where you are. How old is your soul?

I tried to push this out of my mind and watch as the poll was leaning towards Bunny obstacle course.

I won't give up on us, even if the skies get rough.

I can't leave Phil.

I'm giving you all my love. I'm still looking up.

I tried to imagine taking Jessica's deal. I can't do that? Can I?

And when you're needing your space, to do some navigating... I'll be here patiently waiting, to see what you find.

I looked down at the black head of hair kneeling behind the computer in front of me. Just then Phil got up and grinned at me.

'Cause even the stars they burn, some even fall to the earth. We've got a lot to learn.

Phil grabbed the Justin Beiber mask that was on the BBCR1 TV behind us this week and put in on. He then started moving strangely like some demon-monster like we typically did with the masks.

God knows we're worth it. No I won't give up.

Phil was worth it, I can't follow through... but what else should I do?

I don't wanna be someone who walks away so easily
I'm here to stay and make the difference that I can make
Our differences they do a lot to teach us how to use
The tools and gifts we got, yeah, we got a lot at stake.

Our friendship is too important to me.

And in the end, your still my friend at least we did intend
For us to work we didn't break, we didn't burn
We had to learn how to bend without the world caving in
I had to learn what I've got, and what I'm not, and who I am.

As the song said that line a stopped. Who am I? What kind of a person am I? I don't want to say I'm a coward, but I'm sure as hell acting like one.

I won't give up on us. Even if the skies get rough, I'm giving you all my love. I'm still looking up, still looking up.

I need to tell Phil. I need to sort this. I need to stop acting with cowardice.

Well, I won't give up on us. God knows I'm tough enough. We've got a lot to learn. God knows we're worth it.

I sure as hell know Phil is worth it. I smiled towards him as he was doing some swaying dance to the music. He returned the look and smiled back at me. Our eyes remained locked for a few seconds. At that moment the only thought I could process was 'blue.'

"What's the poll say?" He asked me suddenly.

We returned to the computer to check.

"You can start." He told me as the song ended and we put our headphones back on.

"I Won't Give Up Jason Mraz. It is halfway through our show and at this time we like to do something called Dan vs. Phil." I said looking towards Phil so he knew to pick up from there.

"So we asked you all to vote on what our challenge would be this week. Now the poll is closed, the votes have been tabulated. This week's winner between blindfolded Easter egg hunt and Bunny Rabbit obstacle course is..." Phil started.

"Would you like an awkwardly long drumroll?" I asked as our drumroll sound effect was awkwardly long and we always liked to point it out.

"Yes." He said as I pushed the button.

There were a few seconds of silence as just the drumroll played. Phil and I mumbled comments like, "so long", "awkward drumroll", and "this is awkwardly long."

"This week's winner... for what we're going to spend the next 7 minutes of lives doing live on camera for the whole country to see is... Bunny Rabbit obstacle course!" Phil announced.

"Yay!" I said, "Ok, so now, for anyone who is not already there, now would be a good time to head over to the Radio 1 website and watch what is about to go down at BBC dot co dot uk, forward slash radio1! Get there now as Phil and me will be doing physical activity dressed as giant rabbits! Yay!" I said pushing the buttons and setting up what had to played for the next 6-10 minutes.

We got suited up as giant (horrifying) bunnies and headed out to the green room.

I smiled watching Phil go through the course. I can't leave him. He's too integrated in my life. I might just have to tell him. I'm sure he'll understand... He's Phil.

I decided that after the show I'd tell him everything that's happened in the past few days and explain how we can make it work without either of us getting hurt.

I can do this.

We can do this.
