Chapter 20

There was a pulsating pain in my head. I opened my eyes to feel more pain. Light seemed to hurt. What? I squinted to look at my surroundings, and I realized I was at home on the couch. How did I get here?

Do I have something to go to? Is it Sunday? Is it time for the radio? I rubbed my eyes, and looked around again. I had hit my head. Oh that’s right. I wonder if I have any memory loss?

My name is Daniel James Howell. I was born on the 11th of June in 1991. It’s 2 May. I think it’s a Tuesday. I do that YouTube thing. My channel is called Danisnotonfire. My last videos were… ‘The Panic Alarm’, ‘The Power Nap’, and… ‘AmazingDan 3

Slowly, I started to remember my current situation. The last I remember, I was running away from-

“Hey you’re up.” Phil said suddenly coming into the room. I started to question if everything was a dream at this point because it sure felt like one. Also Phil was acting rather casual if what I’m remembering was a reality.

“How did I get here?” I asked sitting up a bit more, and squinting to try and focus some more. My head still hurt loads, but I didn’t seem to have any memory loss… unfortunately.

“You uh… ran into a pole, so I brought you back here. You hit your head pretty hard and you passed out. I was going to call a hospital if you didn’t wake up soon, but you’re up now so…” Phil said. Ok so the running thing actually happened. Does that mean I’m mad at Phil?

“Oh, so that’s why my head hurts like hell.” I said. I looked up at Phil to try and assess the situation.

Phil seemed to panic at this statement, “Are you okay? Do you need anything? Ice? Painkillers? Do you need to go to the doctor’s? I’ll take you if you need it. Do you have amnesia? What’s your name? What’s my name? What day is it?” He asked rushing out a million questions per second. Well not really a million, but he did have a lot of questions.

“Phil! I’m fine… I just think I need an aspirin or something. I don’t have amnesia, but I do have a ginormous headache.” I had barely finished my sentence before Phil rushed off probably to get me something for my headache.

Did I seriously run into a pole? I’m such a klutz. I also felt super embarrassed. I was actually running away, and somehow managed to screw up big time at doing that as well. I noticed my suitcase sitting opposite of me. For a second, I considered taking off again, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to get very far. Plus have I mentioned my killer headache?

I slid myself into a sitting position. I was about to get up and get my laptop from the case, but just then, Phil came back with a couple of small pills and a glass of water which I took gratefully from him.

“Thanks.” I said and proceeded to swallow the pills and drink the remaining water.

“No problem.” He said taking a seat on the opposite side of the couch of me. There was a pause, but I waited for him because I could tell he wanted to say something. I wanted to hear whatever it was he was thinking about saying because I was still felling a bit dazed, and wasn’t too sure how to react quite yet. “Hey Dan?” He asked, confirming my assumptions about wanting to speak.

“What?” I said, half-turning to face him.

“I’m sorry.” He said. I tilted my head unsure if I had heard him right. What exactly was he apologizing for? What do I say? It was quiet while. I thought about everything, and tried to guess what was the most obvious thing for the apology.

“What for?” I asked, unable to come to a consensus on my own.

“For making you hit your head. And for anything else I’ve done to inconvenience you recently. Like break your arm. Or ever… like when I stay in the bathroom too long. Or when I eat your cereal. I’m just an awful person, and I’ve never thought I bothered you, until now. I guess I’m asking to… start over?” He said, carefully selecting his words.
