Sparrow
"Sparrow do you know the answer to this question?" Magnus asked during math class.
"If I gave you the answer that would be cheating," I state.
"It's not like it's a test," he whines.
"But then you wouldn't learn anything if I gave you the answer," I explained.
"Come on. Please!" he exclaims.
"Magnus how about I help you with math after school tomorrow, since the lunch bell is about to ring," I suggest.
"Sure," he smiles.
As we exit the classroom when the bell rings the teacher calls Magnus's name.
"Magnus, I need to speak with you," Miss Calvin calls after us.
I followed Magnus into the almost empty classroom.
"Magnus you've got to stay in to do the math test again, remember," she reminds him.
"Sorry Sparrow as you can see I can't eat lunch with you today," he apologizes.
"That's fine, see you after lunch," I waved goodbye.
I sat where we always sat. Under a small oak tree at the edge of the schoolyard. I saw someone in the woods. I quickly realized they didn't seem to be any older than myself. They also seemed to be in pain. I quickly ran to the kid.
I was right I'd seen the girl before she was in my class. She never spoke and no one ever spoke to her. I admit I had a small crush on her. She had thick brown hair that went just past her shoulders. Her eyes were a deep chocolate brown. Okay maybe a big crush.
"Aurora!" I shout her name.
Her eyes focus on me. She seems to have fallen and scratched up her knee. Not badly luckily.
"Oh hello Sparrow," she tries to smile.
I help her to the small oak tree where we both sit down.
"What happened?" I ask.
"I was checking out that old truck," she explains.
There is an old truck in the woods by the school. Rumour says it's haunted.
"You should be more careful," I murmur.
"You sound like my mom," she laughs.
"I just don't want you getting hurt," I try to explain.
"Why's that?" she asks.
"Because you seem awesome," I'm blushing at this point.
"Oh, thanks," she smiles.
"You're bleeding," I state.
"What I never would have guessed," she says sarcastically.
"Here," I hand her a bandaid.
"Why do you carry bandaids around?" she asks.
"You have to be prepared for anything," I grin.
Truth is I find them very interesting, but I do like to be prepared too.
"You're a funny person Sparrow. A funny person with a funny name," she laughs.
"My name is awesome," I state.
"True," she smiles.
The bell suddenly rings.
"See you at your house!" Aurora runs to class.
Well let's hope Harlie's mom doesn't get too mad about another person coming home. Especially when we're grounded.
She went back to her normal self after that, she didn't say a word. She talked to me.
She was serious. She walked beside me holding my hand. I'm serious she was holding my hand the whole way from the school to our house. She never said a word. She just grabbed my hand. The others were watching her in confusion but didn't ask.
I glanced in her direction. Her face was hidden by her hair. If I could see her eyes I bet she'd be looking at the ground. She seemed deep in thought. Suddenly She looked up at me and she smiled. I couldn't not return a smile.
Her hand held mine not too tight not too loose. Her hand was soft, so soft. Her hands were the same size as mine. Her hands weren't as bony though.
She seemed rather peculiar. Most humans don't hold hands after they just met. Though most also don't come to someone they hardly know's house without permission. She always seemed in deep thought. It was rare to hear her speak. She checked out a haunted truck. She had the highest grades in the whole class for everything. She always wore a banana yellow sweater and a beautiful moon necklace. She was strange that's for sure.
"I told you you're grounded no people over," Harlie's mom shouted.
"I'm sorry. I'll just leave," Aurora apologized.
Her deep brown eyes seemed to almost be hypnotizing.
"Nevermind you can stay. You'll probably set a good example for these four anyways," Harlie's mom smiled and went to make dinner.
Harlie's mom never would have done that. Who is that woman. Well she's feeding us, so whatever. Wait Aurora, hypnotizing eyes. Something is very off.
Aurora and I sat on the swings. Silently at first.
"Sparrow I can make humans like me and do what I want," she said in a quick burst.
"I realized," I smile at her.
"You aren't human," she states.
"Right you are, you win........ Nothing!" I exclaim.
"As I said before you're a funny person," she laughed.
"We're friends now right?" I ask.
"Of course," she grinned.
Being that it was a friday she slept over. We slept in a tent outside because we are just that hardcore. We talked all night. By that point we knew just about everything about each other. As in stuff Sky and Harlie don't know about my past. She was a very interesting person.
She lived beside a river with her mom, dad and siblings. Her mom stayed home with her new baby sister Emerald. Her dad was a park ranger at a nearby campground. She had four siblings including Emerald. Her older sister Lilac who was fifteen. She also had two younger brothers, River was twelve and happened to be her twin and Forrest was eleven.
On sunday I was going to her house. We planned to explore the woods.
She was strange. She was one of my best friends. She was my crush.
Aurora
Sparrow is so absolutely lovely. I really like her.
I can't wait for her to come to my house. I think my mom will be proud of me for finally making a friend. Sparrow obviously has an appreciation for nature so she'll love the creek and woods I'm sure.
I can't wait for Sunday.
