"You have five minutes," the officer tells me as I sit down to talk to Melanie. They actually let me, as most of the evidence against her isn't solid so she isn't considered very dangerous yet.

"So what happened?! I know you didn't do it, but just hurry up and tell me because we have to do something about this," I quickly get to the point, not trying to waste any time.

"Oh yeah... It's all so confusing," she begins, pushing some pink hair behind her ear. She seems extremely out of place when I look at her. Pastel dress, half bright pink and half black short hair, and to me she just looks so innocent.

To sum up what she tells me, it all began with a phone call she got. It was obviously from Tommy, and he was threatening to "kill more people" if she didn't go to their house. That was an automatic answer to our doubts, Tommy and Julie were behind all those murders. She showed up at their house and Tommy threatened Annie's life, which was obviously a trap but Melanie became defensive in the moment. She grabbed a knife to use against him, but how the police saw and heard about it was a whole different story. That's how she ended up being blamed for attempt to murder, and maybe even other previous homicides.

"Okay I'll see what I can do. I'm already involved so I have to do something about it," I tell Melanie. Honestly, after meeting her and all these situations we've been through, I've become a lot more confident and brave.

"No please don't get more involved in this," she says with a sad voice. The officer tells us our time is up and I leave ready to investigate whatever deep shit we are in.

I walk down the sidewalk and think my plan through. To begin with, I don't have one. It's obviously not safe to just show up at Julie's house. Maybe I can talk to Molly, but she's been very weird lately. That makes be believe that she somehow has something to do with all of this too. From what we know, there will most likely not be murders now that Melanie is in jail if their goal was to frame her like that. So what I need to do is find evidence against them. That means I do have to show up at that house then.

I walk down the street in deep thought and suddenly bump into someone. It's a young girl with pale skin and freckles. She has short brown hair and bangs, and a septum piercing on her nose.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention," I tell her, a bit embarrassed.

"I wasn't looking either, sorry," she says quietly, hazel eyes looking down. I notice a book she dropped, and pick it up for her.

"Here. My name's Acacia. I guess we should both try being more careful," I tell her with a smile.

"Thanks," she nods, "I'm Gabriella."

"Do you know anything about Julie?" I ask her.

"Uh, I just know she is new in the neighborhood and people don't really know about her family or background," she tells me. I thank her and we walk our own ways. Okay so she is a mysterious person then, should have guessed.

I decide to talk to Julie's neighbors. I'm thinking I should ask about cameras. Yes, cameras. I concluded that with how the whole situation was a set up, the police were probably called before Melanie even showed up. If I can find a camera that shows her walking by, and prove that the call was made before, that would obviously save this case. The chances are so slim though.

I knock on the door of the neighbors to the left. They are actually a family I know, my dad is friends with a lot of the neighborhood folk.

Talia opens the door. She's a short, African American girl with short black hair which is red at the tips.

"Oh hey Acacia. What's up?" She greets me.

"I actually want to know if I can have a look at your cameras, like what was filmed this morning maybe," I tell her.

"Oh about that..." She trails off, and tells me to wait a minute. She goes to ask her mom something and comes back.

"They haven't been working for the past four months," she says with shrug and gives me an apology. I thank her and decide to head home for now. I know the other neighbors don't even have cameras installed. Why do I feel like I'm backtracking when I should be moving forward by now?

I get home and walk into my room. I jump back as I'm startled by a girl sitting on my bed. I then realize it's my cousin. My favorite cousin, if I may add.

"Acacia!" "Ruby!" We both exclaim at the same time and hug each other. She used to show up at my house like this all the time because her parents travel a lot for work, but it has been a while since I last saw her.

She still looks the same though. Ruby is a short girl with fair skin and freckles. She has dimples which always show up when she smiles, and her hair is blonde and slightly curly. My favorite thing about her? She has one blue eye and one green eye. I've always found that so fascinating.

"What's wrong?" She asks, probably noticing how deep in thought I was. I decide to tell her, I mean what harm can be done? She was going to follow me around anyways.

"You just got yourself a new partner!" She tells me, adjusting her beanie and jumping off the bed. I guess we are alike in that way. We don't really know how to stay out of trouble, or what the word safe even means.
