I hear sirens echo loudly into my house. I peek through my window and see an ambulance stopping across the street. My iPhone suddenly starts blasting Lana Del Rey's song Carmen, my best friend's favorite. I tap to answer.

"Hey, what's up?"

"Another death! I'm telling you, something isn't right!" Molly exclaims in a hurry. I look back through the window and see her dashing to a group of officers who just got there. Her curly red hair is up in a pony tail and she is wearing some type of black trench coat. She pushes her black rectangular glasses up the bridge of her nose, it's something she does when she is preparing to "question" someone.

"Molly, you're not a detective." I state plainly. "And you know the police never give you a single answer."

"Shut up. I have to go." She hangs up. I see her drop her phone in her pocket and take out a notebook and pen. I turn and walk towards my room. I know how it's going to end. They're just going to shoo her off right away. All that police business is confidential, and not something they give off to high schoolers.

I put my dark brown hair up into a ponytail and stare at my reflection. My hair is medium length and my eyes are green. Just like my mother. I've always been told I'm like a replica of her. She died when I was young, but I'm always being reminded of her because it's true, I resemble her a lot.

"Acacia! They ignored me again! How cruel can they get?!" I hear Molly burst through the front door. I walk out of my room and see her sitting on one of our couches with her thinking face on. Her thinking face: biting her bottom lip while completely looking off into space. She always does this. I sprawl on the couch across from her.

"You knew they would do that." I point out as she continues to look off into who knows where.

"Okay there have been five deaths in our neighborhood this past month. That isn't very common." She says.

"They could still be coincidences."

"I doubt it. I'm telling you, these were murders. The police just haven't said anything because they don't have any evidence to prove it, so they don't want us to freak out yet." She starts.

"Here we go." I mumble under my breath.

"We are dealing with a very creative and careful murderer here. It has to be someone from this neighborhood because no one has seen any strange people come down here. There is no pattern at all between the ages or family backgrounds of the people who were killed, so it is someone whose motive is just to kill. Someone who is probably not mentally stable. Someone who doesn't get along with all of us. Someone like..."

"I know what you're gonna say and you have no right to just be pointing fingers like that." I cut her off.

"You know it's possible." She says. "Others think so too."

"Melanie Martinez seems like a nice girl." I answer.

"Her hair is weird."

"I actually like her hair a lot. It suits her and its unique." I stick my tongue out like a child, something I always do to Molly when I have something to say against her points. I've only seen Melanie twice, but the whole half hair color thing seemed pretty cool. Although it's not something I would do.

"Don't defend the killer!" She exclaims.

"Hey, I'm just being honest." I shrug. I hear a ring and Molly looks down at her phone.

"Well I have to go. Be careful!" She says, referring to the deaths.

"Okay! Bye." I wave. She waves and closes the door.

It's true that the deaths are a little suspicious, but everyone has been automatically blaming Melanie Martinez. She lives by herself in the biggest house in our street. It's very old-fashioned, but it doesn't have  the whole "haunted house" feel. I've heard she's only around 19 or 20. The people here don't really know anything about her family or history. She seems to keep to herself. A lot of my neighbors say they  find her pretty creepy. Well, actually, the whole neighborhood is putting it in their heads that she's the murderer, which I think is mostly Molly's fault.

I've never had a real encounter with her though. From what I've seen, she doesn't seem very evil. I'm not very convinced she's the killer, but I don't really know anything about her either. The deaths could also not have been murder, so who knows what's going on.

I just know that Melanie is being accused more and more each time. The police have had no evidence that lead to her, but I know the neighbors are making them suspect her too. If they get anything that hints at her, she is doomed. Maybe she is responsible and she has a very elaborate murder mind. I don't know what to think.

Can that girl really be the cause for all of those deaths?
