Kai woke up to the soft calm sounds of the calm wind whistling seeping through her door and window. The room was cold as she was wrapped up in a blanket, to suddenly feel small breathing against her neck.
She peers over to the breathing to see Akio sleeping calmly next her. Flabbergasted and confused, she remembers learning about macarons and macaroons the other night. I guess it was late and I passed out. . . . She thought looking at the ceiling.
Suddenly he wraps his arm around her waist and pulls her closer to him.
She smells like Cherry blossoms and almonds. He thought.
A wave of heat rushes to her face as he snuggles his face on the crook of her shoulder. Her heart starts to race once again as she places her hand on top of his. He's so warm. . . She froze in her spot until she calmed down and tiredly grins before she went back to sleep.
"Hurry up Akio!" She says as her hands grasp on the balloons that flew recklessly against the wind. He quickly grabs his bike and carefully places Itsuki's order in the basket, then awaits for Kai to hop onto the back of the bike.
She hops on top and holds onto Akio as he puts the pedal to the metal going at high speed.
Kai wraps her arm around his waist as he took a detour next to the rail road. White doves flew past them as some of their feathers calmly danced with the wind.
The balloons were going crazy as she tries to hold onto every single one of them. It was a bumpy ride as she would have to constantly hold onto Akio for support.
He took this path for a short cut as taking the sidewalk would take to long as there would be traffic that would have to make them take short stops. This delivery was very important as it was someone's birthday, someone's birth. When people thank the person for being born, it's the most special thing to celebrate each year. Kai, Akio, and Mr. Mao took their time and patience to make their order the best thing they could make.
Once Akio places his foot on the gravel for a halt, Kai automatically got off the bike and picked up the gift from the basket. Akio leaned his bike against the wall and followed Kai Who was already at the front door.
The woman's front yard was beautiful as it was covered in greenery and a sakura tree who was barely recycling its petals. "You may do the honors," Kai said with a smile backing away from the door. He leans over and knocks on the door.
Seconds later an old lady was welcomed at the door once the showed her the gift they had for her granddaughter as they traded it for money. "Aww, she's going to love this, thank you very much! It looks very cute!"
"Your welcome," Akio said with a wave. "We couldn't tell if you wanted Macaroons or Macarons so we gave you both so please forgive us," he said bowing
"Oh it's fine, she loves macaroons and macarons."
Akio awkwardly chuckles and nudges Kai "See, she knows!" causing both the woman and her to laugh.
"The Penguin Cafe wishes your grand-daughter a happy birthday. Please enjoy it." Kai bows in respect but was stopped by Itsuki.
"Oh, there's no need to bow, Ms. Sakura. This is already enough. It shows a lot of capability you two can do. Thank you again." Once they left their doorstep, Kai and Akio wave their goodbye's to Itsuki before she closes the door behind her.
The ride back to the cafe was more different from usual. It was less reckless and bumpy. Instead, it was calm and relaxed as they crossed the bridge.
The air smelled like the salty ocean as waves crash each other below them. Today felt like they accomplished something as Kai finally gotten her promotion.
"Here is your first paycheck." Mr. Mao said passing her a small envelope.
She opened it to only have a 500 yen coin on her hand. (is about $4.62 in America)
One day, I can buy something. But this will have to do. She looked up and hugged Mr. Mao. "Thank you."
