Chapter 16

last night I heard my own heart beating, sounded like footsteps on my stairs. six months gone and i'm still reaching, even though I know you're not there. I was playing back a thousand memories baby, thinking about everything we've been through. Maybe I've been going back too much lately, when time stood still and I had you.-Taylor Swift If this were a movie.
Damon's POV
Paisley leaned into me but I couldn't concentrate. I could feel it happening. I could feel her slipping away and it terrified me. I could feel everyone watching me, I forced my face into neutrality because I couldn't break down right now. I thought of our baby, we were so close to having a perfect life. Everything was finally falling into place, but now she could be leaving again. she could be slipping away and she'd do it too. After the catastrophe of last time, I knew Paisley would do anything to stop it from happening again. I began to play with a bit of her faded-red hair. the others quickly started talking about something else, I was trying to memorise the feeling of running my fingers through her hair.
"Are you okay?" she asked me quietly, the others didn't even glance our way.
"No. Are you?" I felt like I was dying inside, like I was breaking apart.
"No. I'm scared." Paisley whispered and I nodded my head.
"I know you're scared princess, but we'll get our dad's onto it. I'm not going to let him take you away from me again." I told her and she nodded.
"I just don't want you to get hurt." she told me.
"Don't worry about me, I'm fine and it's going to stay that way. I promise." I whispered and she nodded her head.

"Is anyone else hungry?" Sam asked us and we all nodded our heads.
"Alright well i'm going to order a cake, we can divide it up between us." Sam left for the counter and I took Paisley's hand.
"Have you spoken to Cassie?" Jake asked Alex who shook her head.
"No, she and Katherine have gone radio silent. but I'm sure we'll hear from them soon. Also they go to school right? unless they've left for good then I don't see why they're not going to show up sooner or later." Jake nodded his head, he'd been acting more like himself ever since Paisley came back. it really did seem like everything was back to the way things should be.
"You guys know that college scouts are coming next week right?" Aiden asked and my brows rose.
"College, i'd almost forgot." I shook my head, I couldn't even remember if I had even applied to any colleges. I doubted it, I had been so wrapped up in my own drama with Paisley being gone that I hadn't thought about it. just then Amanda strutted in and I groaned as she spotted us. she immediately started walking over, what did she want?

"Hey guys." She smiled brightly at us and it seemed genuine, but you could never tell with Amanda.
"Hello Amanda." Piper narrowed her eyes at Amanda, it was obvious that Pip hated her.
"What do you want?" Alex asked and didn't even bother to look at her, she just swirled her coffee around with a spoon.
"Damon, I was wondering if we could meet up again?" she was making a show, I mentally gave her a round of applause for being queen bitch. "Wow, you really have gotten big." Amanda directed this at Paisley and I just decided to ignore her.
"you can go now." Paisley told her.
"Oh but Damon and I were sleeping together, so no I can't." Amanda gave a fake smile.
"keyword in that sentence was were." Paisley snapped, I had told her about Amanda when she got back. she had shrugged it off. she knew that I thought she was dead and she told me that she had wanted me to move on. She had forgiven me because she knew that I loved her and felt nothing for Amanda. that I was just trying to feel something.
"Someone's a hormonal bitch today." Amanda rolled her eyes like she thought this was ridiculous.
"Sorry Amanda but i'm going to have to ask you to leave." A shop clerk told her and her jaw fell open.
"I set fire to three coffee cups! that's practically nothing!" She exclaimed but was escorted out. Good riddance. Sam came back and sat back down next to Diana. he kissed her then, he had told her he loved her and I'd never seen him happier. not with any girl before, they really were perfect for one another. we waited patiently for our cake, the shop clerk came back a phew moments later. they were carrying a big white box and placed it on the counter.

"Starbucks has gotten fancy." Piper murmured and Sam opened it. we all peered in at the chocolate cake, it had something written on it.

My stomach clenched and churned at the sight of the words. there was no doubt in my mind that it was Robert. we all stood up abruptly and began to back away, I glanced over at Paisley who was pale. Fear formed in my stomach and I looked around frantically, Sam seemed oblivious to the message and got the knife ready. but something in my gut told me to stay away, you could call it intuition or gut feeling or whatever you wanted. but I opened my mouth to tell Sam to back away. but I never got the chance, it was like the world slowed down, and I watched in horror as the tables around shook. the cake exploded and we all flew backwards. I went flying and crashed into a wall, my head smacked it and I fell to the floor. my eyes fluttered shot and all I could see was a sea of fire and smoke before I lost myself to the deep and dark depths of unconsciousness.

When I woke up my head was pounding, my skin was on fire and my throat burned. my eyes stung and I couldn't see anything but smoke.
"Paisley?" I croaked, a bomb. The cake had a bomb in it. How did Robert know that we'd order cake? or was he planning on delivering that anyway? I could hear people crying and coughing but the smoke was too thick. it was dragging me back down. I was growing weary as I looked around for her. have a blast. Stupid, idiotic bastard. he would pay for what he'd done. I crawled on my hands and knees, desperate to find her. but the smoke inhalation got the best of me and I was dragged back into unconsciousness.

It shall be an earth shattering KABOOM! Sorry that's just something I say. Anyways I was so happy to finally get this plot twist out there. Mini spoiler is that someone dies. Not gonna say who and I won't be able to write for a couple weeks so you can go crazy and try and work out who. And no it's not going to be one of those crappy Rv deaths where it was like a bus driver or some irrelevant character you don't know. It's gonna be one of the squad. Anyway thanks for reading!
