Chapter 33

3 days later.

''Alright, can you jump twice?'' Clarke asks Lauren who nods at her before taking a deep breath. She bends her knees a little before pushing her body up to make two small jumps. When her feet touch the ground, she feels her muscles ache.

Being back on the ground, means getting back your strength. So Lauren and Camila have been under strict supervision from NASA to make sure their recovery goes as smoothly as possible. Lauren is getting her strength back a lot quicker than Camila, due to the fact that Camila had spent a longer period of time in space than she did.

The astronaut still seems a little out of it sometimes. Only last night, she let go of her bottle of water mid-air when she was done drinking and forgot that it would fall to the ground. She had looked at it with confused eyes for a few moments, expecting the bottle to just keep floating around her. Lauren had smiled adorably at her and they laughed about it together, but this is just a small example of how far Camila has yet to go before being fully recovered.

''Great job, Lauren. You can take a seat now and get some rest, I'll get you some water.'' Clarke tells her with a supportive pat on her shoulder. Lauren pants and nods, sitting down as fast as possible before her legs give in.

Clarke hands her a bottle of ice cold water and Lauren downs it almost immediately. Her heart-rate slowly calms down while she takes a few minutes to get her breath back.

''Lauren, your vitals are good, no sign of any wrong signals.'' Clarke tells her. ''Your strength is coming back as well. You've managed to stand on your feet and walk around for about 7 hours now, including the time at the police station, so that's really good as well.''

Lauren nods at her while her breathing slowly calms down again. ''Jumping is hard, but I heard you drove around a little in the car this morning with Lexa, right?'' she asks and Lauren nods again.

''Yeah, Camila and I want to be able to drive again as soon as possible. We want to be able to search around for Kyano apart from the police as well.'' Lauren explains and Clarke looks at her with sympathetic eyes.

''I know. You're done for today though, so can you tell me if there is any news?'' the blue-eyed woman asks carefully, taking a seat next to Lauren. The technician sighs heavily, still feeling the weight of gravity push down on her body heavily.

She looks up at Clarke and studies her for a few moments. The young woman next to her has been by her side a lot these last few days, trying to get her back up and running as quick as she can. Lauren knows she and Camila are an extraordinary case. It doesn't happen often that astronauts need to be back on their feet as soon as they have to, so for the medical staff and interns it's a challenge to give them the best support they can.

Lauren found out that Clarke is in her last year of college, and has gotten this job as an intern along with Lexa, Anya and Lincoln. Anya and Lincoln helped Brody and Jesse when they got back, and Lexa is assigned to Camila.

''What's the latest thing you've heard about it?'' Lauren asks her.

''Lexa told me that the police suspect them moving more to the East. But that's all I know.'' Clarke admits and Lauren can't help a small smile. She has noticed Clarke and Lexa are close and she'd have to be blind to not see the way Lexa looks at her. She has teased Clarke about it more than once already and she knows Camila is out there probably teasing Lexa as well. It's honestly one of the best things they can do while waiting around for any news about their son.

''Well that's about all I know as well. The last thing they've heard about them is from people who claim they've seen them after seeing their pictures on the news. But a few reports came from the North of Oregon while others came from the East. So it's really hard to pinpoint where they are exactly. And while we still have to recover, all we can do is follow the police.'' Lauren explains. For the millionth time since they landed on Earth, the technician feels her eyes water.
