Chapter 39

''Camila are you even sure she's there? We might be driving the wrong way now...'' Dinah trails off, looking into her rear-view mirror to see her best friend looking straight ahead. Normani squeezes Dinah's hand softly, making the Tongan look up at her. Normani shakes her head and Dinah understands her message.

''I'm sure. She left a sign for me, I just know it.'' Camila says, her voice soft yet determined.

Clarke looks over at Lexa, who's sitting on the other side of Camila in the backseat of the car, massaging the astronaut's legs. Lexa just shrugs at her and continues her work on Camila's muscles, trying to relax them a little and prepare her for all the walking that will no doubt be happening once they arrive at the lake.

''Are you sure you don't want to use the wheelchair when we're there? I can push you, it's really no problem.'' Clarke offers her gently, resting her hand on Camila's shoulder in support. But the astronaut doesn't move her gaze from the road ahead and only shakes her head.

''As long as you don't take full sprints, I'm fine with that.'' Lexa mutters, earning a soft smile from Clarke while Camila just chooses to ignore it.

They've been driving for 32 minutes now and it feels like they haven't moved an inch. She's getting impatient, anxious. She knows nobody believes her, but deep down she feels the incredibly strong need to go to Crater Lake as soon as possible.

''Normani, have you told Zendaya where we're going?'' Lexa asks while Clarke moves to help her colleague in massaging Camila's other leg. The car doesn't give them much space to work, but they both try to make the best of it, knowing Camila is going to need her legs when they arrive.

''Yes. She told me she needs to stay in that village a little longer to talk to some more people, but she sent two police cars after us. I think they're about 15 minutes behind us since we left so abruptly that we didn't give them any time to follow our lead.'' Normani answers, her thumb still making gentle circles on the back of Dinah's hands.

After realizing Lauren was gone, Normani fell into a major panic attack. The only thing she could think of doing after running around and screaming her best friend's name for 10 minutes, was calling her wife. Dinah was the one to call the police and get everything up and running and she was the only one that was able to calm Normani down once she and Camila arrived.

''Is two police cars enough? I mean, we don't know what Brody is capable of..'' Clarke trails off unsurely, feeling uneasy with the fact that the police cars are at least 15 minutes behind them and they're going to face a psychotic kidnapper.

''I don't need anybody's help when I see that filthy disgrace of a human being.'' Camila says, her voice still calm but her anger very noticeable. She earns a hum in approval from Lexa who in turn earns a stern look from Clarke.

''Okay she-hulk, calm your fists.'' Dinah says to her while turning on the exit of the highway. ''You ain't gonna beat up anybody cause 1: I'll beat you to it and 2: your kid is around. Ain't really a good example to see his mother beat up his father.''

''Don't call him that. He doesn't deserve that title.'' Camila answers harshly before she hears her phone beeping, giving her a signal of a message.

''It's the truth though, gotta deal with it.'' Dinah answers back, turning to her wife when Normani squeezes her hand again.

''HOLY SHIT!'' Camila calls out suddenly, making everybody in the car jump in surprise while she keeps staring at her phone.

''WHAT WALZ? YOU ALMOST MADE ME DRIVE INTO THAT DAMN TREE!'' Dinah shouts out while Normani pushes her hand against her own racing heart and heaving chest.
